Will The Real Florida Marlins Please Stand Up

Image
As is customary year after year, “March Madness” took on a different meaning for the Marlins at the end of Spring Training. And boy do the Fish love making “U-Turns” this time of year.. Spring should be a time to get your players ready and COMFORTABLE to where more or less they’ll see action during the everyday grind of the regular season. From releasing Dan Straily, to putting Wei Yin Chen in the Bullpen, to Garrett Cooper being your everyday Right-Fielder… All decisions made the last few days. Someone should give my Marlins that memo 🙉. First and foremost, the Marlins ARE placing their best 5 starting options in their Rotation. But why is it that I feel Florida’s putting too much stock in Spring performances. You have to understand, guys like Chen and Straily are not gonna look at these Spring outings like a Trevor Richards or a Pablo Lopez (guys who are getting their first extended look in a Big League camp) would. But again, I do believe the Marlins are putting their Best 5 (...

Marlins' Pen maybe set ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When camp opened a month ago, everyone thought that there were many jobs to be won in the Marlins' Bullpen. Looking back, that may have not been an accurate thought.. Coming in, we knew   Sergio Romo and Drew Steckenrider would be closing   candidates, along with lefty Adam Conley. Flame thrower Tayron Guerrero, looking to build off his first year in the Bigs, is out of options, which guarantees him a spot.. And Lefty Jarlin Garcia (who was also a starter last year) has really already proven he can be a valuable left hander in your Pen, as he’s done so over the last 2 years… 2 Front-runners, who have done nothing to hurt their stock this spring, will make the Marlins Bullpen... Austin Brice (a former Marlin claimed off waivers by the Reds) is also out of options, which helps his cause (in order to be sent to the minors Brice would have to sneak through 29 Big League clubs via waivers, with nothing guaranteeing he’d be Marlin property through the process). He’s...

Las crónicas de Isaac Galloway

Image
Co...

Early, and I mean Early assessment of spring..

Image
I would say 10 spring games constitutes as pretty damn early.. But here are a few takeaways of camp so far.        Too much too soon You ever heard of the old baseball adage “Don’t put too much stock into Spring Training or SEPTEMBER".. Peter O’Brien is a good story. South Florida kid.. Cuban American background… He had a decent final month with his home-town Marlins last year. But Gary Denbo, Don Mattingly, and the Marlins tend to forget he hit .215 in the minors a season ago. Mattingly had him hitting clean up towards the end of last year, and again to open up the Exhibition schedule. Remember, he also had Lewis Brinson in the leadoff spot to open up 2018. Brinson, who never really got going, and struggled mightily throughout his first full-season in the show.. Let a guy like O’Brien settle in. Place him a little lower in the order, take some pressure off him. He has legit power, and being a Denbo/Yankee guy (alas Garrett Cooper and Caleb Smith), wil...
