An absolutely terrific Spring was just concluded by the Marlins, and not just record wise (Though they did win the Grapefruit League for the first time since 2006 😉). The Fish’s big Lefty Prospect Trevor Rogers, claimed, overpowered, and in instances outright dominated on his way to securing a spot in the Rotation (Just ask Houston 🤠). Veteran newcomers Antony Bass & Adam Duvall showcased their own power-skills with an Arm/Bat combination that helped both Players secure terrific Seasons' in 2020. Jazz Chisholm "earned" (key word) the Opening Day 2B job with an infectious energy he displayed throughout all facets of his Game 🎷. All of this while the Jesus Aguilar's, Garrett Cooper's, Jon Berti's, Sandy Alcantara's, Pablo Lopez's, Starling Martes', and Miguel Rojas' seem more ready to go then ever into this 2021 Season 💪. We mentioned Chisholm, who was competing with Isan Diaz for the Second Base Position, and how it was earned not give

Some Old-School

In a Baseball world full of 'Analytics', 'Launch Angles', and 'Shifts'. It's enlightening to see a power hitter from the cloth of yesteryear in the form of Adam Duvall. The high 4 seam Fastball in the Game is certainly in style these days for Pitchers, hard not to be with the whole "Launch Angle" phenomenon Hitters dove into a few years back. Something noticed   from this Outfielder’s days in Atlanta however, is how Duvall’s level swing-path attacks Pitches up in the Zone, and the Results again have shown up this Spring (3 HR's, 2 2B's, and 1 3B) for the Marlins' newest power Bat.  Lefthanded Olympian  Our friend Eddy Alvarez hasn’t had many AB’s this time around in Camp, while the few that he has had all seem to be Righthanded for the Switch-Hitting Infielder. Something picked up by Son Los Marlins in 2020 is the night and day difference from Alvarez in the Lefthanded Batter’s Box as opposed to the Right. As a Lefty Hitter, Eddy has

1 week. 7 days.. 6 Exhibition Games and Spring Training 2021 officially comes to an end for the Marlins... A lot has transpired over the last few weeks. Guys like an Anthony Bender have come out of absolute nowhere and our willing themselves on to the Big League Roster 🔥 despite a very crowded Florida Bullpen. Meanwhile the Isan Diaz's of the world continue to show 🤔 well, absolutely nothing 🙈. 2 individuals heading in complete opposite directions as Spring comes to an end.  From a Son Los Marlins Blog a few weeks back. We said it here at Son Los Marlins that the Fish would give Diaz the first crack at 2B and they still might come April 1st. It's also no secret 'SLM' identified a long time ago who the better Ballplayer was..   (From a 'SLM' back in September of 2019.) ..and Continues to be Following the 2020 Postseason.  What's the "non-Prospect" Jon Berti done this Spring? Hit .353, go 4 outah 5 in Stolen Base attempts, hit a pair of Doubles,

Don’t put too much stock into Spring Training numbers. Instead view the Quality of the At Bats when it pertains to Marlins Hitters. Left Fielder Corey Dickerson will be the first to tell ya that the wild 2020 60-Game Season threw a Curveball into his performance a year ago (Year 1 of his 2 Year 17.5 Million Dollar Contract). The quality of his At Bats last Season were certainly not bad (even with subpar results), but I remember the Spring of ’20, a pre-pandemic Dickerson beginning his first Camp in Jupiter. The “Quality” is night and day difference from this year to last in those Spring AB’s, with a lot shorter/different approach at the Plate. Corey Dickerson is in a Contract Year, as he’ll be a Free-Agent following the Season, and he could be in store for another nice pay day if he keeps this up. Not to mention his Left-Handed presence would only be magnified in a mostly Right-Handed Marlins’ Lineup.  ... Speaking of Right-Handers, you had Broadcasters from St. Louis say Elieser

Brian Miller with a game-saver yesterday  ⚾.   ... The Marlins inked veteran Lefty Gio Gonzalez to a Minor League Deal this morning. Gio, a Pro for the last 17 Years, can easily secure a spot in the Marlins’ Rotation with a decent showing this Spring. He’d be a very welcome addition knowing our Fish will ease the workload on their Talented, but Young, nucleus of Arms. You already had Manager Don Mattingly instructed not to include Sixto Sanchez’s name when mentioning Rotation  🔒 locks 🔒  in that Starting Staff for ’21. That’s not because Sixto needs more developing (he didn’t need Developing when the Marlins handed him the Ball for not 1, but 2 Playoff Starts last October). It’s for the simple fact Sanchez has not Pitched more than 114 Innings in any Professional Season. Florida will ease their Number 1 Prospect gradually into the 2021 campaign (He just threw his first Bullpen session of the Spring yesterday), understandably so, and he’s not alone.
