Sweet Home Alabama

No Closer Tanner Scott. No Set-Up Men in Anthony Bass & Steven Okert. No problem?!  Each of Scott, Bass, and Okert had Pitched in the first 3 Games of a 4 Game Series in D.C to kick off the month of July. The Marlins were looking for a 4 Game Sweep over those Nationals on the very 4th of July 🇺🇸, but to say the Fish really needed Starter Braxton Garrett to go deep into the Game that day, may be an understatement. "Our Bullpen's a little taxed, it was in the back of my mind to try and get a few more Innings out for the Bullpen" said one Braxton Garrett after carrying a Shutout into the 8th Inning on July 4th during an eventual Extra Inning Win for the Marlins in Washington.  That gritty performance from the Alabama native has sparked what has been a terrific Month of July for Garrett. Coming into tonight's Game in Cincinnati, the Rookie Left-Hander is 1-0 with a very impressive 1.80 ERA since his D.C Outing . The Marlins have gone 3-1 in Garrett's last 4 St

2013

With the current Marlins equaling the Franchise Record for most consecutive Innings without Scoring a single Run. It got us thinking a little bit of the Team & Players whom the 2022 Squad now share that distinct mark with. You'd be surprised of some of the names that passed through Miami 9 years ago. The 2013 Marlins lost 100 Games in year number 2 of the new Ballpark in Little Havana. Their issues during year number 1 of a Rebuild however were mostly Offensive. Because the 2013 Marlins also hold the Franchise Record for Lowest Team ERA as a Pitching Staff at 3.71. With young hurlers such as Jose Fernandez, Henderson Alvarez, Nathan Eovaldi, and Jacob Turner having a lot to do with that. The 2022 Fish too are led by they're Rotation which features Sandy Alcantara, Pablo Lopez, Braxton Garrett, and Trevor Rogers. But again much like 2013, have struggled mightily to Score Runs. Certainly Marlins Park has never been known as a Hitters Park, with it's very cavernous Outfie

"Let the Kids play"

Image
With the MLB All Star Game having been Played last night, let's take a slogan straight from Major League Baseball itself when assessing the 2nd Half of the 2022 Season for the Marlins. "Let the kids play". Before Derek Jeter starred in Documentaries on ESPN, and before he left or was Fired (depending on who you talk to 😉) as C.E.O of the Marlins prior to Spring Training. There was a quote that Jeter himself used more than once when speaking on up and coming Prospects inside the Marlins Organization. Saying "we must be responsible when filling gaps (in regards to adding to the Club whether through Trade or Free Agency), that we're not blocking the young prospects that we have". It's a bit ironic (or moronic 🤐) that the last Free Agent addition for Jeter as head of the Marlins, today is doing exactly that. Jeter & the Fish signed Avisail Garcia this past November to a 4 Year Contract to fill an Outfield spot. An Outfield spot that could easily go t

Top Marlins Pitching Prospect Debuts. The great, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Top Prospect Max Meyer is making his Major League Debut right now. How will the new 'Mad' Max in the N.L East fair against the Philadelphia Phillies in Marlins Park, and how have other Top Pitching Prospects faired in their Debuts and Careers for the Marlins. The most recent of such Debuts occurred less than a calendar year ago. Edward Cabrera made his MLB Debut last August against the Washington Nationals in Miami. Cabrera flashed signs of dominance, carrying a shutout into the 7th Inning, before giving up back to back Homers to Josh Bell & Yadiel Hernandez which gave the Nationals the lead. The Marlins would comeback to Win that Game in 10 Innings.  For Cabrera, Injuries not only pushed his Debut to '21 (as he looked destined to Pitch for the Marlins in 2020), but have also limited him to only 3 Big League Starts so far this year, despite the amazing potential (He threw a 96 MPH CHANGEUP in Colorado!). A lot of people are quick to forget Braxton Garrett was once th

The Marlins FINALLY Beat The Pirates What is it about the Pirates when facing the Marlins? Whether it be PNC Park or more recently Marlins Park, why does it always seem the Bucs have the Fish's number?? This dominance isn't something new either.  Historically speaking PNC Park  has been a house of horrors for the Fish. Some extremely Talented Florida Ballclubs Lost every Series played in the Steel City to some really bad Pirates Teams from 2002 through 2005 (Including the 2003 World Champion Marlins getting Swept right out of the Allegheny late that Season).  More recently the Venue hasn't mattered much. The Marlins dropped 5 consecutive Series, whether they were played in P.A or M.I.A, to what were all of a sudden very talented Bucs Clubs that at the time were led by Andrew McCutchen & Garett Cole from 2013 through 2015.  The current Fish haven't had much luck either against Jack Sparrow's favorite Team. The Marlins have not taken a Home Set (and won't ag

We've reached the Half-Way marker of the 2022 Season. 81 Games in, 81 Games to go. The Marlins stand at 39-42 and 4 Games out of the final National League Playoff spot.  The Fish will have to leapfrog at least 3 of the 5 Teams in front of them in the NL Wild Card Race in order to reach the 2022 Postseason, 2 of which are at least inside their own Division (Braves & Phillies). Which Players on the Marlins have kept them within striking distance, and which Players may continue to play pivotal roles down the stretch?? Let's dive in with some Son Los Marlins mid-Season awards. With the purpose to kind of spread the praise if you will, we'll qualify solely Position Players for the MVP honors. Otherwise Sandy Alcantara, our clear Cy Young, would pretty much obliterate our awards, and muchly deserved.  It's been quite a while since a Pitcher had a Season the likes one Sandy Alcantara is putting together here in 2022. We're talking Dontrelle Willis ('05)/Kevin Bro

Coop a Loop
