One of the most impressive victories in not only recent Marlins memory, but in their 28 Season History. That's what took place Sunday, July 26th, 2020.  Yes, it sealed a series win in Philadelphia to kick off the Season. Yes, they erased a 4-nothing deficit to do it.. But that doesn't even begin to tell todays Fish-Tale...  In what is turning out to be 1 crazy pandemic Season in Major League Baseball, and in Sports in general, Miami gave way to news 90 minutes prior to Game-Time, that they're Game-Day Starting Pitcher had tested positive for Covid-19, and he wasn't alone. 2 starting position players had also tested positive for the virus prior to the Game, hitting the Fish with massive both physical, and mental blows.  It was now 4 players in 3 days that had gone down with the illness, following their starting Catcher, who had come down with Coronavirus heading into Opening Day. The circumstances, the mental state of each ballplayer with everything going on Covid rel

Decisions, decisions 🤔

The Marlins have some decisions to make. They'll need a 30 Man Roster by Friday to face the Philadelphia Phillies. But there is a catch. Every player on that 30 Man Squad has to be on Miami's 40 Man Roster.  We told you here at Son Los Marlins that the Fish would want to wait at least a week with a Player like Monte Harrison before calling him up to the Show. That only makes business sense, to wait a week, and gain a year of his Service in the future. The news has since broken that Harrison won't be with the Marlins on Friday in Philadelphia 😉, but they will have to potentially burn a few others' service year.  It will not be as easy as bringing up lets say guys "like" Ryan Lavarnway & Sean Rodriguez. Because for every guy like Lavarnway & Rodriguez, you have to bump potential Prospects off you're 40 Man Roster in order to include them, and potentially risk losing those Prospects on Waivers in the process. That's where the Marlins will have

All Time "Closing" it out

Image
"All time" pinch hit leader Lenny Harris. What better time than during a Pandemic to bring out the Marlins All Time Team. Here is my take on the legends of Florida baseball. No better way to "close" out the Roster than with it's Closers.  Big Game Saves: Robb Nenn & Ugueth Urbina Both Robb Nen & Ugueth Urbina have a leg-up on the competition. Both gentlemen have the distinction of Closing out the most important Games for the Franchise. Nen not only is the Franchise Leader in Saves with 108 from 1993-97, he was also a perfect 4-4 in Save Chances during the 1997 Playoffs (Helping the Fish capture their first Title). Urbina was picked up for the 2 nd half of the 2003 Season, becoming as close to automatic as you can be when taking the ball (He had a 1.41 ERA down the stretch). “Ugi” picked up 4 Saves during the ’03 Playoffs (Helping the Fish capture Title number 2). Lights-Out Season's : Bryan Harvey & Armando

All Time (Pitching, Pitching, and more Pitching)

"All time" pinch hit leader Lenny Harris. What better time than during a Pandemic to bring out the Marlins All Time Team. Here is my take on the legends of Florida baseball. It's the Starters' trun in the Roation  ⚾ . Starting Rotation: ..... Josh Beckett The best game pitched in Franchise History.  If you consider the circumstances, along with the surroundings, and above all else the stakes. Josh Beckett holds that distinction. The "3 days of rest", the "ghosts of Yankee Stadium", the opportunity to "clinch the World Series", and all the then 23 year-old did was Shutout the Yankees in an absolute Pitching Clinic. The 2003 World Series MVP came up big all through that Postseason. From blanking the Cubs with a 2 Hit Shutout while facing elimination in Game 5 of the NLCS, to solidifying Game 7 of that Series with 4 Innings of Relief 2 NON PITCHING DAYS LATER. The big Texan won 15 games in ’05 and you’d be press

All Time (Outfield)

"All time" pinch hit leader Lenny Harris. What better time than during a Pandemic to bring out the Marlins All Time Team. Here is my take on the legends of Florida baseball. Today we dive into the Outfield. Right Field: Gary "Shef" Sheffield  One of the most feared hitters not only in Marlins History, but of his generation, Garry Sheffield occupies Right Field on this  All Time Fish Roster. He is the only member of the 500 Home Run Club to ever suit up in Miami, with 122 of those coming in a Marlin Uniform. 'Shef', a 2 time All-Star with the Marlins, as well as a Silver Slugger winner in an incredible 1996 Season, helped bring the Commissioner 's Trophy to Florida in 1997. This World Champ was the Organization's first true Superstar.  Center Field: Giancarlo "Mike" Stanton Before you ask, yes, Giancarlo Stanton played a total of 1 Game in Center Field back in 2011  😉 . Though Shef knocked Stanto

All Time (Infield)

"All time" pinch hit leader Lenny Harris. What better time than during a Pandemic to bring out the Marlins All Time Team. Here is my take on the legends of Florida baseball. Starting with the Infield. Backstop:  Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez We'll start with one of the toughest decisions on the list. Who would be the man behind the plate on this All Time Marlins Team? Charles Johnson was the Marlins 1st ever Draft pick and was from Fort Pierce Fla, he won 4 Gold Glove Awards, caught the first 3 No-Hitters in Franchise History, was a 2 time All-Star (on 2 separate stints with the Fish), helped win the 1997 World Series, and yet he comes in second on my list?? 2nd only to Ivan Rodriguez whom only played 1 season in South Florida?! Oh but what a Season it was! Pudge was the highest profile signing the Franchise had ever had, for he'd already established his place in the Hall of Fame during his career in Texas. But you can say Rodriguez meant the most to

An All-Star in a Season with No All-Star Game 🤔

Caleb Smith could be a big beneficiary of a 2 month season like there will be this year in Major League Baseball. Smith has shown flashes of dominance in his brief 2 year Major League career. But health in a taxing 162 Game Big League schedule has been a factor in 2018 & '19.  Overlooked trade? The first trade the Marlins made under this new ownership group wasn't a headline grabber at the time. Especially as 4 All-Stars were dealt that same offseason, including one with the same New York Yankees involving Giancarlo Staton. Yes, the first trade the Fish made under C.E.O. Derek Jeter was with his former club. The Marlins dealt Minor League prospect Michael King along with International Signing Pool money to the Yanks for Garrett Cooper and Caleb Smith. New York may have cared more about the cash (where there are limits each Team can spend on the International market), as they were trying to sway superstar Shoei Ohtani (who wound up with the Angels). What we know..

The Atlanta Braves have taken a massive hit over the last couple days. Their number 1 stud in the lineup Freddie Freeman tested positive for Covid-19. While Nick Markakis, whose been an anchor in the middle of their order for the last 5 seasons, has decided to opt of the shortened 2020 campaign. We now know Players who decide to opt out, whom MLB does not determine to be high-risk, will forfeit their 2020 contract. For example, Mike Leake, a Starting Pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks is a Ballplayer who has opted out. 2020 marked year 5 of his 5 year contract. He will now be a free agent following the season.. David Price of the L.A. Dodgers, someone who has also opted out of 2020, if not found “high-risk” would forfeit close to 12 Million Big-1’s (the pro-rated of the 32 Mill he was scheduled to make during a full campaign). He’d also be on year number 6 of his 7-year contract in 2021 (this season would have marked his 5 th year on that deal). That is a scary provision for Team
