2013

With the current Marlins equaling the Franchise Record for most consecutive Innings without Scoring a single Run. It got us thinking a little bit of the Team & Players whom the 2022 Squad now share that distinct mark with. You'd be surprised of some of the names that passed through Miami 9 years ago.

The 2013 Marlins lost 100 Games in year number 2 of the new Ballpark in Little Havana. Their issues during year number 1 of a Rebuild however were mostly Offensive. Because the 2013 Marlins also hold the Franchise Record for Lowest Team ERA as a Pitching Staff at 3.71. With young hurlers such as Jose Fernandez, Henderson Alvarez, Nathan Eovaldi, and Jacob Turner having a lot to do with that.

The 2022 Fish too are led by they're Rotation which features Sandy Alcantara, Pablo Lopez, Braxton Garrett, and Trevor Rogers. But again much like 2013, have struggled mightily to Score Runs.

Certainly Marlins Park has never been known as a Hitters Park, with it's very cavernous Outfield.

The 2012 Season, with all it's glitz & glitter did not produce many Victories for the Marlins. Instead it opened the door for many a newcomer after Marlins Fire Sale 3/4. Amongst those names making their MLB Debuts in 2013; Marcell Ozuna, Derek Dietrich, Ed Lucas, and of course Jose Fernandez on the mound.

There are many similarities from 2013 & 2022. With hopefully the 100 Loss Season NOT being 1 of them, the Derek Jeter Fish already lost 105 in 2019 (Year 2 of current Rebuild). But did you know the 37 Scoreless Innings streak by the 2013 Offense began prior to the All-Star break that year and carried right into the start of the 2nd Half, much like '22.

Did you know that 1 day after breaking the Scoreless drought in Colorado back in 2013, the Marlins called up Top Position Player Prospect Christian Yelich. Today, 1 day after equaling the Franchise Record of Offensive futility before putting up 8 Rus in Pittsburgh last night, the Marlins are calling up J.J Bleday.

Side note of similarities: Jake Marisnick  was called up to the Big Leagues with Yelich on July 23, 2013, 9 years to the day that Bleday is getting the Call. Marisnick was in the Pirates Lineup last night when the Fish snapped their Scoreless drought.

Obviously there are, as there Needs to be, many differences from 2013 to 2022 (As mentioned earlier Year 5 of a Rebuild as compared to Year 1). The current Marlins are currently fighting to stay in the Race. Bats such as Bleday's should help, even if only via addition by subtraction. But in all seriousness, Bleday like Yelich was a 1st Round Pick by the Marlins, and lefty Bat just like 9 years ago, that is desperately needed.
