Camp Notes


Trevor Rogers, the Fish’s 1st Draft choice back in 2017, pitched in a game for the first time wearing a Marlins uniform yesterday. After struggling in his first pro season in 2018, Rogers made tremendous strides last year. The cousin of former Marlins’ fan favorite Cody Ross, Rogers pitched to a 2.53 ERA in Jupiter, tallying 122 strikeouts in 110.1 innings, earning a promotion to Double-A at seasons end. His stuff played yesterday in an impressive ‘exhibition’ inning in which you could see what made him a 1st Round Pick. Explosive fastball, nasty little breaking ball, all coming with a good compact delivery from the left-hand side.

Speaking of prospects. Jazz Chisholm and Monte Harrison are bringing some energy early in camp. Chisolm looks swift on the defensive side of the ball, playing Shortstop like a young Hanley Ramirez 😎. His glove has impressed early. While Harrison looks a lot more comfortable in his now 3rd Big League Camp, having swiped 3 bases in a pair of games.

  From the Luis Arraez Trade on May 03rd, having Tim Anderson become the only Free Agent signing during an entire Off-Season, igniting the Franchise into yet another Fire Sale. So when Bendix strikes a move during the Winter Meetings, dealing Marlins Home Run Leader Jake Burger to Texas for 3 Prospects, it's no surprise fans show so much displeasure. Especially when you come to find out the move wasn't even money related for the low revenue Marlins, as Burger will not be Arbitration Eligible until 2026, meaning his '25 Salary will be closer to the Major League minimum.   The Rematch for the Heavyweight Title in the sport of Boxing is set for Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk defends his crown against the best big-man in Boxing of this generation, Tyson Fury. After such a closely contested Fight this past May, which saw Usyk narrow out a Split-Decision, there's high anticipation for Saturday in the desert. Less than 7 months ago we witnessed the first 'Undisputed' Heavyweight Championship Boxing Match since 1999, which saw Usyk nearly stop Fury in Rd. 9, after a flurry of combinations to the kisser had the 6'9 Englishman on queer street. The change in tide during the Bout however, came when it seemed Fury was in complete control during the middle Rounds, following massive uppercuts (including to the body) which seemed to really hurt the former Light Heavyweight Champ.   As the Marlins completed their penultimate Road Trip of 2024, going 1-6 against two mediocre Teams of the National League in Pittsburgh & Washington, they'll now return Home to face the Club with the 2nd best record in all of Baseball in the L.A Dodgers starting tomorrow night. The Fish now stand at 55-95, a whopping 40 Games Under .500 with 12 Games remaining. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp still have a week to go on their 2024 Calendar, the last Marlins Minor League Affiliate with Game action remaining. Lefthander Dale Stanavich will get a Promotion for this final week from Double-A Pensacola, who played their final Contest of 2024 yesterday. Stanavich put up some solid numbers out of the Blue Wahoos Bullpen and was a part of the 2023 Jupiter Hammerheads Title run last year.
