2021
Spring Training has begun, the 2021 Season is upon us, and in the words of the Joker.
“Here. We.. Go...”.
Looking to build off a stunning Playoff appearance in 2020, our Marlins begin Camp with some familiar faces in some unfamiliar places.
Adam Duvall has joined
the good guys. After being non-tendered by the evil empire out in Atlanta in a
head scratching move of sorts. The Fish signed the free-agent who came in 2nd
in the National League in 2020 with 16 Home Runs to a 1 Year 5 Million Dollar Contract.
A decent deal for the Marlins in my opinion after seeing the money that has
flown like water this Off-Season (if Tommy La Stella gets 3 Years and 19
Million out in San Fran to be a Utility Man, I mean no offense, but yikes!).
Duvall should fit perfectly in both Corners of the Outfield, can easily spell
a Corey Dickerson out in Left against southpaws should he again struggle (((Dickerson
hit .275 with a .335 OPB against Righties in 2020 as compared to .212 with a .241
OBP against Lefties))), which could open the door to more playing time for a Garrett Cooper out in Right. 2019 served as a wakeup call of sorts for Duvall, who
spent the majority of the year in Triple-A for the Braves. Boy has he
responded after hitting 32 Round Trippers and Driving In 92 Runs in 101 Games for Gwinnett.
Since being re-called to the Show in late July 2019, all the former Cincinnati Reds
All-Star has done is hit 28 Long Balls in 109 Games for Atlanta. 2 of those
came in 11 Postseason contests..
Whose on Second??
1 of the more intriguing battles in Camp this Spring resides at 2B. Where the Bahamian born Jazz Chisholm seems to have the most Potential.. Where Jon Berti is the better Player at the moment... But where (mark my words) Isan Diaz will be given the 1st opportunity when the Regular Season begins....
You’ll hear the term “Platoon” over the next couple of weeks and how the Marlins want to stay away from them with Prospects like Diaz & Chisholm. This will not bold well for Berti, who as the Backup Middle Infielder is best served for a Platoon to open the Season. You will then hear how our Fish view Jazz as the Shortstop of the Future, and how he’d be better suited playing that Position everyday in the Minor Leagues for developmental reasons. All of this with the reality being the Marlins want to see once in for all what they have in Diaz (1 of 4 pieces of the dreaded Christian Yelcih Trade, with Jordan Yamamoto being the only Player they've moved on from 3 years and counting). Same reason a Harold Ramirez was cut over Monte Harrison or Lewis Brinson last week. The Fish know exactly who they gave up in that Deal, and will go with these gentlemen until they can’t anymore, for better or worse.
*Personal Prediction, Berti will "eventually’’ Platoon at the Position with the either Diaz or Jazz throughout the Season 😉.
