40 Man (Pt. 2)

Yesterday we touched upon the Pitching side of things in regards to the Marlins 40 Man Roster. Today is the Position Players turn for us to speculate on who will still be on the Roster in the coming weeks and who will not in regards to Outrights.

We talked yesterday (https://sonlosmarlins.blogspot.com/2021/09/40-man-pt-1.html?spref=tw ) about the need to clear some space on the 40 Man Roster for each Team at Season's end. Unlike on the Pitching side of the equation, there are 2 impending Free Agents on the Marlins when it pertains to the Position Player side. Joe Panik (who was just DFA'd as I'm writing this) said his goodbyes to the 2021 Season yesterday and possibly to the Big Leagues as well. Only Panik would know what he'd like to do in regards to 2022, while at the same time him or Sandy Leon (the other F.A on the Marlins), would have to make a Major League Team next year (weather it be here or not) on a Minor League Deal.

As far as Players being Outrighted early into October for the Marlins, 2-Time Olympian Eddy Alvarez, along with fellow Infielder Devin Marrero, Pitchers Preston Guilmet, Adrew Bellatti (The former 3 just had their Contracts Selected today), and Jeff Brigham (who we talked about yesterday) are certainly names that fit that bill. Now, these Players could still be back in Miami on a aforementioned Minor League Deal (which would make a lot of sense for someone like Alvarez, who knows, and the Organization knows, very well). But at 32 years old entering 2022, Alvarez finds himself expendable on the 40 Man Roster, as do the other 3 aforementioned journeymen (Marrero, Guilmet, and Bellatti).

Alvarez, Marrero, Leon, Guilmet, Bellatti and Brigham might be the only 6 Players who won't be on the Marlins come November, but rest assured they won't be the only guys removed from the 40 Man Roster this Off-Season. Major League Baseball's Collective Bargaining Agreement is up with the Players Union come this December. Assuming there will continue to be a Non-Tender date for Players who are Arbitration Eligible, the names Jorge Alfaro, Lewis Brinson, and Jon Berti might all come up as Non-Tender candidates. Alfaro is Arbitration Eligible for a 2nd time this Off-Season. It would be straight up asinine for the Marlins to give their Catcher a raise on the $2 Million Dollars he made in 2021. Speaking of asinine, are our Fish really going to go through the Arbitration process with someone like Brinson? Nothing does shock me anymore with this Front Office. Berti (32 years old in '22) is really the only good player of this trio whose Arbitration eligible for the first time. But similar to Alvarez, the Marlins might relocate their Roster space elsewhere.

What to do with Outfielders Brian Miller (who was just Called-Up today from Jacksonville), Monte Harrison, and Arb Eligible Magneuris Sierra might be made later in the Off-Season, as the Fish look to see what Acquisitions can be made to upgrade the Offense. Decisions will also have to be made in the Arbitration process with Jesus Aguilar, Brian Anderson, and Garrett Cooper. But unlike the previous 3 (Alfaro, Brinson, and Berti), all Three of (Aguilar, Anderson, and Cooper) should, and most likely will, be Tendered a Contract for 2022. Weather they remain Marlins or are Traded is a different story. - Side note: If I'm the Marlins I find a way to retain all 3, especially and arguably as ALL THREE, may very well be, THE 3 BEST HITTERS In Your LINEUP when Healthy...
