Is it true? Can it really be?? No, nothing to do whether there will be a Lockout across MLB starting tomorrow or not, that was always going to be the case. What may or may not be more unreal, earth shattering, awe inspiring/incredible is the fact the Marlins may actually be making really good Baseball decisions for a change 🙂.

Things didn't get off to the best of Off-Season starts for the Marlins. After failing to protect certain Prospects with 5 years Minor League service from the Rule 5 Draft, all while maintaining Players on the Roster who everyone knew wouldn't be on the Club at the end of the month. Coupled with reports circulating that the Marlins were in on Starling Marte (even offering 4 years, which was their bugaboo in June & July, but not Novemver❓), as the Centerfielder went on sign with the rival Mets. It wasn't until Sunday, the first of 3 straight days of major acquisitions by the Fish, that the Off-Season may have truly gotten started in Florida.

Avisail Garcia's 4 year $53 Million Dollar Contract became official today. Garcia's Deal is the most money given to a Position Player by the Marlins since Dee Gordon's 4 year $60 Million Dollar Extension in January 2016. It's also the most a Free Agent Regular has received by the Franchise since Jose Reyes' 6 Year $106 Million Dollar Contract in December 2011. Garcia's Signing becomes the richest overall guarantee to a Free Agent Outfielder in Club History, as Players like Reyes or Carlos Delgado before him (4 Years/$52 Million in '05) were Infielders.

Though Garcia's Contract may have been a slight overpay by the Fish on Sunday, make no mistake it addresses some major needs to the Marlins Offense. I was a proponent to a Garcia/Marlins connection in the winter of 2019, which saw Garcia ultimately end up in Milwaukee on 2 Years & $20 Million. The Fish would go on to ink Corey Dickerson to 2 Years themselves that Winter, for $17.5 Million. Avisail Garcia, who was once a highly touted Prospect in Detroit's Farm System and given the nickname "mini Miggy", is coming off a Career Year with the Brewers in 2021. One which saw the prodigious power Outfielder hit a Career high 29 Home Runs and Drive In 86.

As important as adding a Bat the caliber of Garcia's to the Marlins Lineup is. The biggest and most undervalued acquisition may very well be that of Jacob Stallings'. The Gold Glove Catcher is praised throughout Baseball as an elite game-caller who handles a Pitching Staff as good as anyone. By the way, if the Marlins are going to make noise in the N.L East in 2022, it'll have A LOT to do with Pitching, Pitching, and more Pitching. The cost to acquire a Jacob Stallings from the Pittsburg Pirates was that not of a single Top 15 Prospect in the Marlins System. It speaks volumes to not only how deep the Florida Farm System is, but maybe to an actual savvy move by the Fish Front Office (yeah I said it).

The Marlins may have saved the best for last. Joey Wendle was acquired via Trade yesterday from the Tampa Bay Rays. I've always been a fan of Wendle's since he played against the Fish in 2018. The no batting gloves look, the pop from the left hand side, the feel for hitting. When I first laid eyes on Joey Wendle he reminded me of Former power hitting Lefty on the Marlins Justin Bour. But Wendle is an extremely talented Gloveman who plays all over the Infield, he can scoot on the Bases, all while playing the Game with a 'Charlie Hustle' level of intensity. Or in other words, Kon'nichiwa to the new, and Sayanora to the old ⬇️🇯🇵🙂.

The Marlins FINALLY parted ways with 1 Lewis Brinson.

..and Jorge Alfaro.
