What could a '22 Marlins Lineup look like?!
With the Exhibition Schedule set to kick off tomorrow in West Palm Beach for the Marlins, what could a Batting Order look like on a Don Mattingly Lineup Card this year?
The Marlins have added 3 brand new Hitters to their Squad in the form of Avisail Garcia, Jacob Stallings, and Joey Wendle. While the entire National League has added the Designated Hitter, much to the delight of 1st Baseman/Outfielder and now potential DH Garrett Cooper, who was quoted last year as saying "MLB messed up by not incorporating" the DH a Season ago.
Cooper says he is fully healthy after requiring Tommy John Surgery on his left arm in August. Coop was injured playing 1st Base in Philly last July, but assures he's ready to go. "I think the wrist surgery that 1st year here (was bigger) said Cooper, (the elbow) was probably best, recovery wise".
There have been many Ballplayers Coop's size (He's listed at 6'5/235 lbs) who have sustained many a injury over the years (think Aaron Judge & Former Marlin Giancarlo Stanton in NY).
When healthy Cooper feels just like those NY guys, that he's "a Top 20 Hitter in Major League Baseball", and is certainty one of the Marlins' better Bats. But where could a Coop fit in this year Batting Order?
Jesus Aguilar & Brain Anderson too join Cooper returning from Injuries of their own, as well as joining him in being 2 of the Marlins' best Offensive weapons.
Where someone like Anderson plays in the field this year is something less determined. That in large part to the arrival of Joey Wendle, who seems will get many reps at Andy's 3B in order for both the Glove & Bat of the ex TB Ray to be in the mix.
"If that means I'm in the Outfield, I'm in the Outfield" said Anderson, "the last couple times I did it, it helped me out and it helped the Team out. I think we're going to run the best Lineup out there every single day"
π€ Jesus Sanchez in CFπ€
That parallels into who will man Centerfield for the Marlins, at least until further Transaction notice π? At the time of the Avisail Garcia signing, we heard the possibility of him seeing action in Center. Since Camp opened however, another curious name has seen reps in the middle of the Outfield. 24 year old Jesus Sanchez, could be another name to keep in mind when determining the Outfielder with the most defensive range.
We know both Garcia and Sanchez will be in the Lineup, with the only question being at what Defensive Position? In regards to Centerfield, Sanchez said "It's something I've learned since the beginning and (something) I keep working on".
So Marlins Fans, could this be a preview to a potential 2022 Marlins Lineup? Spring Training should figure it all out, after all that's what's it for π.
