Things are a changing π
Yesterday was built as an "end of an era" in Marlins Baseball. In terms of Wins and Losses, it certainly was a very tough era for the Fish.
Don Mattingly Managed his final Game in a Marlins Uniform, and quite possibly in the Big Leagues yesterday. Am I that naΓ―ve to think a new Manager is suddenly going to walk into the Miami Clubhouse, wave a magic wand, and miraculously turn the Marlins into Contenders? No. But to see the Fish not accept mediocrity anymore, and in some cases even embrace it, is at least a good sign for the fan base.
A new voice, with a different thought process and ideas has been desperately needed by the Franchise for a very long time now. General Manager Kim Ng & Owner Bruce Sherman are in charge of finding that new voice for the Marlins. A voice that would not hurt being from the outside as opposed to in house if you ask me.
Mattingly, a Jeffrey Loria hire all the way back in 2015, was Extended in the Managerial chair TWICE (after a 105 and during a 95 Loss Season) by fellow former Yankee Captain Derek Jeter. The former C.E.O of the Marlins may have left or was shown the door back in February, but the ripple effect may have FINALLY been felt 7 months later, as Mattingly isn't the only ex Yankee employee not returning to the Marlins.
Director of Player Development Geoff DeGroot, along with Professional Scouting Director Hadi Raad were let go by Ng & Co. last week. DeGroot & Raad (along with Ng) were direct Jeter & former VP Gary Denbo hires. It's really hard to say any Jeter employee has panned out in Florida 5 years later.
So what does all of this mean for the Marlins? Well, at least to me, it's begun to show they've started to care again. As a fan, that's all we can ask for. #GoFish and enjoy the Playoffs everyone. ..Who knows, we may see our Marlins playing in October in the not to distant future π.
