Destruction
With the Marlins in absolute full self destruction mode thanks to the guidance of Owner Bruce Sherman, President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix, Manager Skip Schumaker and plenty of Players who can't bat their weight & a lot of Pitchers with ERA's over 6. Let's instead turn our attention to the squared circle, where Fighters are allowed to take out some frustrations on one another.
There's that old saying inside the sweet science that Boxing's only as healthy as the Heavyweight Division at times, and while that may not be completely true, especially at the moment with so much action here of late throughout the sport, the Heavyweights due take center stage come Saturday when the WBC and Lineal World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury battles Unified Champion in 2 separate weight classes Oleksandr Usyk.
Sportsbooks have this fight of the unbeatens as even as can be. The Bout marks the 3rd Title defense for the Ukrainian Usyk, after originally dethroning Anthony Joshua in September of 2021. The Fight also marks the first Title defense for Fury since December of 2022, seeing as last October's Matchup with Francis Ngannou was not for the Strap.
It marvels to think this will only be the 6th Heavyweight Fight overall in the Career of Usyk, as the former Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion would go on to beat the much larger Joshua twice after only 2 Bouts in Boxing's biggest weight class. It speaks to the Ukrainian's boxing ability and IQ.
However, boxing IQ and ability are also the way bigger Fury's middle name. One has to imagine the 6 foot 9 Fury, unlike the 6 foot 6 Joshua, will know how to implement his size on the 6 foot 3 Usyk come Saturday. Don't expect the Englishman, who may go down as one of the best Heavyweight Fighters of all time, to fight the smaller man's fight.
It will all mark the first time the Heavyweight Boxing Title will see an Undisputed Bout since Evander Holyfield met Lennox Lewis in 1999. Can't wait!
If one whole week is too long of a wait to get your Boxing fill though, no worries, as one of the sports pound for pound greats Vasyl Lomachenko meets former Unified Lightweight Champion George Kambosos tonight. It was Lomachenko whom Unified those Lightweight Titles back in 2019, and it was good to hear the soft spoken Ukranian speak candidly of his most recent Bout.
Speaking towards his May 2023 Matchup with unbeaten at the time Devin Haney, as well as the mega clash back in 2020 against Teofimo Lopez, Lomachenko had this to say; "With Teofimo, ok, it was close" in regards to the Unanimous Decision that went to Lopez, even though many Boxing people had it up for grabs at the end. "But with Haney, it was not (a) close Fight" on a controversial Decision that went to Haney in a plain robbery.
Couldn't agree with Loma more, and I have a feeling Kambosis may suffer some of those consequences tonight. Even if the Fight is down under 🦘.
