The Comebacks
The 'Comeback' has been a theme for the 2025 Marlins. The Fightn' Fish have pulled out 35 come from behind Wins since Opening Day. 14 of those Victories have come when trailing in the 7th Inning or later. The Marlins revived their Season after dipping all the way to 16 Games Under .500 (twice) in June, to then reaching the .500 marker at the beginning of August thanks to an incredible 25-10 stretch. The Fish currently find themselves 6 Games back of a Playoff spot with only 8 Games remaining. Can the Marlins at least cut that Wild Card deficit in half by Friday to make that final Series against the Mets even more interesting?
Don't know if Comeback Player of the Year is still a thing in the sport, but the Organization's had some individuals make quite the comeback themselves in their Career trajectories.
Let's start with Eury Perez, the 20 year old (att) Rookie phenom of 2023, who went down with Tommy John in the Spring of '24. Perez has picked up where he left off for the most part here in 2025, going 7-5 with 85 Strike Outs in 86 Innings.
Fellow D.R native Sandy Alcantara seems to have finally awoken in 2025. A disastrous Campaign was the keynote for Alcantara for over 2/3rds of the Season. Good to see the former Cy Young try and turn it around, going 4-1 over his last 7 Starts with a 2.70 ERA. Alanatara too missed 2024 with T.J Surgery.
Capping the ultra talented Domincan trio of Marlins Starters, there seems to be good news in regards to the Righty who was having the best Season in the Rotation. Edward Cabrera faced live hitters on Wednesday. Cabrera, who was looking to finally get in a fully healthy Season in '25, has missed the month of September with elbow problems. Will the Right-Hander have enough time to make it back by the end of the Regular Season?
Flipping it over to the Bullpen, quite the revelation did the Marlins find prior to Camp opening in Ronny Henriquez. DFA'd by Minnesota in February, the Fish quickly scooped up the diminutive/fire balling Right Hander. Henriquez has become the biggest leverage peice of the Marlins Bullpen.
Speaking of coming out of nowhere to produce a terrific Season in the Fish Pen, Tyler Phillips was picked up by the Marlins just prior to Opening Day from Philadelphia. After a rough initial stint as a Starter in the Show for the Phillies last year, Phillips has found his niche in a variety of roles in the Marlins Bullpen in 2025.
When glancing through Players who've been able to accomplish a complete 180 from one year to the next, the first name that has to come to mind for the Marlins in 2025 is Kyle Stowers. The Fish's All-Star representative, Stowers still leads the Team in Home Runs and is only 2nd in RBI's to Otto Lopez, despite not having played since August 15 due to oblique injuries. Regardless, had you seen Stowers in his Marlins debut during the Second Half of last year, you would know what a Season it's been for the Outfielder.
Outfielder Jakob Marsee too was acquired via Trade during the 2024 Season by the Marlins. Part of the Luis Arraez Trade, each player the Fish acquired in that Deal (4) got off to rough starts in the Marlins Minor League System. Marsee, much like Stowers, went through major hiccups inside the Left Handed batter's box, but once he took off in Triple-A Jacksonville, they're was no stopping the former Padres Prospect. The success has carried straight into the Show, where if Marsee had more than 2 months in the Big Leagues, a Rookie of the Year Award may very well have been added to the comeback mantle.
