Crunch Time ⍩⃝

Twenty One. 21 Games to go in the 2020 Season and the Marlins are right smack dab in the middle of this Postseason Race! I got news for the rest of Baseball, this Team ain’t goin’ nowhere anytime soon either. Just take this last week as an example.

At .500 where the Fish when leaving Miami to start a tough 6 Game Roadtrip on Friday. All they had to do to kick off the Trip was play a 3 Game Series against the best Team in the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays, winners of 20 of their last 24 Games. Followed by another 3 Game Set against the dreaded Atlanta Braves, the defending Division Champs, in 1st Place Again, in a Stadium (Truist Park that opened in 2017) where the Marlins had NEVER won a Series.

Yet those Marlins kicked off their final Homestand of the Season last night still at that .500 mark, after holding their own aginst the Rays, before FINALLY taking a Series from those damn Braves 🙂 ((who avoided a Sweep by trying to pile on to the scoreboard (going 1st to 3rd on a Single in a 19-8 Game, and scoring from 1st on a Double in a 21-8 Game), and you wonder why I can't stand Atlanta)).

I got another news flash for the Braves, their was a Team (the Boston Red Sox) that did that to the Marlins back in '03, and awoke something in the Club during a very "special" Season 💍. I guess it makes sense for them not to get it, the Atlanta Braves can't even win a Playoff Series (Since 2001), what the hell are they gonna know about Rings 💍💍..

..May I rewind the Clock 17 years? After Boston put on a 25-8 beating on the Fish (similar to the 29-9 Win Atlanta put on the Marlins Wednesday), you saw a surprised bunch of Red Sox the next June 2003 summer night after the Florida Marlins erased a 7 Run Deficit in the final 2 Innings to shock Fenway Park, and Win 10-9. Little did Boston know they were messing with the eventual World Champs then.

Now forward the Clock 17 years to present day. The Philadelphia Phillies come to Miami to start a massive 7 GAME SERIES (the first in Baseball since 1967), with huge Playoff implications (similar to '03 😉). What did my Fish do after losing 29-9 in the A.T.L? They put up 3 in the 8th Inning & scored in the 9th to Walk-Off the Phils in an absolute thriller, kicking off the most important Series of the year with a huge comeback Victory. You tell me there's not something special brewing on one of my favorite Marlin-Teams in years?!

Personal-Side-Note

Life’s a funny thing Hair 🤔. I was in Dallas, Tx watching that Marlins-Red Sox highlight at my Godparents place 17 years ago 🙈.  The Marlins turning back the Clock to the last time they were in the Postseason, as I’m just coming back from where? Dallas, Texas 🤠. #SpecialThingsBrewing

...

One thing that isn’t so special, or original for that matter, is (I’ll go out and say it) the Marlins getting screwed on a nightly basis by Umpiring Crews. Let me just give you a taste of what this Team deals with on a nightly basis. These were 3 Ronald Acuna AB’s on Wednesday alone. The man struck out looking on 3 DIFFEREN’T OCCASIONS in the Atlanta victory, and NONE OF THEM WERE CALLED. According to Major League Baseball’s own Gameday Strike Zone, each "Green Ball" was called a "Ball" after Ronald had 2 Strikes, while those 3 seperate Pitches were clearly in the Strike Zone durring 3 seperate AB's.

Pitch #3

All you have to do is nick any corner on that Square for it to be considered a Strike, and it's not like the Marlins don't have one of the best Pitch-Framers in the Game in Jorge Alfaro.

Pitch #4

Each AB was followed by a huge Brave Rally.

Pitch #4 AGAIN!

You know it’s bad, when in 2 SEPERATE Series you have opposing Team's Broadcasters saying how badly the Marlins are getting squeezed in the Strike Zone on air. As was the case with Brain Anderson and Dwyane Staats during BOTH Marlins/Rays Series’. It doesn’t end with just the Strike Zone either. How many times has Manager Don Mattingly compalined about the whole "Call Stands" Rule?! You think the Umpires don't konw that?! You think they don't know if the Call is too Close to Overturn on Replay, they're not gonna screw the Marlins knowing the Origianl Call will "Stand"?! You had 3rd Base Umpire Vic Carapazza on Wednesday in absolutely no position whatsoever to make a call, Call Adam Duvall Safe at 3rd, just for the hell of it. Instead of ending the Inning for the Marlins with a 2-1 Lead, it turned into an 11 Run one for the Braves.

Who remembers Bob Davidson against the Phillies in 2010 calling this ball FOUL?

Trust me when I tell you, this isn't something new the Marlins are dealing with here. But that's just it, they're dealing with it. Last night there were some Strike Calls against the Fish in the 1st & 9th Inning that could have changed the course of the Game. The Club simply brushed it off and were simply not going to be denied. We've said it here at Son Los Marlins this is a special Team. MLB, who needs to begin to adress this issue once in for all, is finding out first hand along with everyone else, just how special these 2020 Marlins are.
