↑ Stepping Up ↑

 

Here at Son Los Marlins we talked about 2003 when the Philadelphia Phillies came to Miami to play a September Series that had HUGE Playoff Implications for both Clubs, and similar to ’03, the Fish took it to the Phil’s in what was a Massive 7 Game Series that ended on Monday, one which saw Florida take 5 of those Ballgames. The Fish who came into the Series 1.5 Games behind Philadelphia, now lead the Phillies by 1.5, and are only 2.5 Games behind the Atlanta Braves for the entire Division lead.

The Playoffs. You can almost “taste” those Playoffs, and there’s perhaps more reinforcements coming for the Marlins. The injury-bug has hurt key pieces like Francisco Cervelli, Eliesar Hernandez, and Harold Ramirez who were all transferred to the 60 Day I.L, pretty much ending their ‘Regular’ Season at least. However, guys like Jon Berti, Magnueris Sierra, and Stephen Tarpley have remained on the 10 Day I.L, as there seems to still be hope for their returns in the coming days. Berti & Sierra would provide huge help to both the Infield and Outfield. Outfielder Lewis Brinson has had a better hitting approach; he seems to have  a “2 Strike Approach”  if you will, from Pitch number 1 of an AB onward. It certainly has helped him, to just look for contact from the get-go, and the numbers have shown, he’s 14 for his last 43 (a .326 Average). But the question is (given his track-record), do you trust him in a big spot late in a Ballgame, even against a Lefty? Which puts the emphasis on a Berti-return in my opinion.     

The Marlins added 2nd Round Pick Dax Fulton to their Player Pool today, making him the 2nd Player from this year’s Draft to be added to the Jupiter squad, joining 1st Round Pick Max Meyer. A name to keep an eye on in Jupiter is Edward Cabrera, as the Marlins on Sunday gave Braxton Garrett a chance to debut in the Show. More importantly, Garrett was added to the 40 Man Roster, which you had to be on by today in order to qualify for the Postseason. Cabrera is already on the 40-Man, and would be an intriguing arm to see if he’s ready. Who knows, maybe a weapon for you out of the Bullpen in October?! We may see some of that Jupiter depth tested in the coming days, especially in the Infield in the form of Sean Rodriguez, Gosuke Katoh, or Jose Devers, if Isan Diaz can't go.

  If the old baseball song 'Take me out the Ballgame' ever rung more veracious today for the Marlins, it'd have to be the part where it goes "If they don't win it's a Shame". Because I don't think there's a better word to describe the Fish right now, than shame. Shame that the Marlins stand here today with a record of 6-23, after just making the Playoffs last Season. Shame, that they blew a 7 to Nothing Lead to the Washington Nationals yesterday afternoon. Shame that the Marlins have yet to win a single Series in 2024. And what's probably the most shameful part into what's become the worst start of a Season in Marlins History, is what the Organization has done and probably will do in the near future to mitigate such a disaster. Destruction

  With the Marlins in absolute full self destruction mode thanks to the guidance of Owner Bruce Sherman, President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix, Manager Skip Schumaker and plenty of Players who can't bat their weight & a lot of Pitchers with ERA's over 6. Let's instead turn our attention to the squared circle, where Fighters are allowed to take out some frustrations on one another. There's that old saying inside the sweet science that Boxing's only as healthy as the Heavyweight Division at times, and while that may not be completely true, especially at the moment with so much action here of late throughout the sport, the Heavyweights due take center stage come Saturday when the WBC and Lineal World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury battles Unified Champion in 2 separate weight classes Oleksandr Usyk. Can only get better from here?

  No way around it. The Marlins have started the Season as bad as it gets in the Win/Loss column. A straight O for 5 to commence 2024. Frustration was palpable inside the Marlins Dugout last night. A 4 Game Sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates was followed by a 7-4 Loss to the Angels to commence a new Series and the month of April, all at Home. The Marlins lost a 3 Run Lead on Opening Day, a 5 Run Advantage on Sunday, and a 4-0 start to yesterday's Game. The Shutdown Inning from their Starters has been nonapparent each time the Fish have scored first, from Jesus Luzardo on Opening Day, to Trevor Rogers & Max Meyer having both been given big leads in the First Inning. Not to mention short Starts from A.J Puk & David Weathers.  The Marlins Offense is the one that does seem to shutdown after some early hot starts. The Fish bats went 0-14 over the final 6 Innings on Opening Day in route to their 12 Inning Defeat against the Bucs. Yesterday, the Club did not put up a sin
