Hammer 🎵 Time

 


The Jupiter Hammerheads, the Marlins A-Ball affiliate, hold a 2 Game lead in their East S.E Division with 3 to play. I had an opportunity yesterday to catch a very near 5 hour thriller in Port St. Lucie Florida between the Hammerheads & 2nd Place PSL Mets. A Ballgame that gave me ample opportunity to see Victor Mesa Jr's exiting style of play. To see 18 year old Shortstop Jose Salas continue his first Pro-Season. And to see an Undrafted Paul McIntosh continue to burst on to the Prospect scene.


 

The ball makes a different sound off Paul McIntosh's bat. 


McIntosh, a multi-position baseball athlete out of West Virginia, went undrafted during this past summer's Baseball Amateur Draft. How and why are beyond me. McIntosh has legit raw power coming off his bat, a College approach at the plate, and can really fly. He spanked 4 hits last night (Including a Triple off the Right Center Field wall) and drove in 3. Paul McIntosh, a name to keep an eye on Marlins fans, for sure.


 



Speaking of College Bats, Cody Morissette batted 2nd and played 3B yesterday for Jupiter. Morissette, a 2nd Round Pick this Summer out of Boston College, reached base 3 times, hit a Double and scored a pair of Runs. MO2's Joe Frisaro dropped a Chris Coghlan comp on Cody Morisettte about 3 weeks ago. I can definitely see why now.

Victor Mesa Jr. probably had the 2 most impactful plays of the night for the Hammerheads. Victor's 2-Run Triple got Jupiter within a Run after trailing 5-0. He then came home to Score on a McIntosh RBI Groundout, in which Mesa pulled a Houdini act at the plate to avoid the tag. The Sharks would go on to win by a Final of 12-8.

After a long Spring Training which featured more than it's fair share of Injuries to the Rotation, conjoining with complete resurgences of health for Pitchers comparable to Sixto Sanchez of all Marlins.   No way around it. The Marlins have started the Season pretty much as bad as it gets in the Win/Loss column. A straight O for 5 to commence 2024. Frustration was palpable inside the Marlins Dugout last night. A 4 Game Sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates was followed by a 7-4 Loss to the Angels to commence a new Series and the month of April, all at Home. The Marlins lost a 3 Run Lead on Opening Day, a 5 Run Advantage on Sunday, and a 4-0 start to yesterday's Game. The Shutdown Inning from their Starters has been nonapparent each time the Fish have scored first, from Jesus Luzardo on Opening Day, to Trevor Rogers & Max Meyer having both been given big leads in the First Inning. Not to mention short Starts from A.J Puk & David Weathers.  The Marlins Offense is the one that does seem to shutdown after some early hot starts.   As much Roster turnover as say, the Marlins Lineup has had over the last few months, with the additions of Avisail Garcia, Jorge Soler, Jacob Stallings, and Joey Wendle. Not to mention the additions by subtractions of Lewis Brinson, Jorge Alfaro, and Isan Diaz. The Marlins Bullpen has pretty much stayed the same since the end of last year, and that may not necessarily be all that of a bad thing. With the volatile nature that is Relieving from 1 Season to the next at times in Major League Baseball, the Marlins decided to allocate more of their Payroll recourses in upgrading the Offense this Off-Season, true. But don't discredit the fact that the Club retained a couple of their most reliable Veteran Relievers either. Groundball machine Richard Bleier and the Marlins came to terms yesterday on a 2 Year Contract extension that'll cover the Ballclub's most reliable Lefty's final year of Arbitration, as well 1 Free-Agent year.
