HOW TO FIX THE MARLINS?
The Miami Herald had an article out yesterday ranking some of the most disappointing Seasons in Marlins history. The 2021 Season certainly made their list in what has certainly been a "disappointing" , 'frustrating', and many times just plain 'odd' year in regards to management of the Marlins Roster. This management, or better yet, mismanagement, of the Team's Transactions however, is not new to 2021.
This Fish Front Office made 'the' worst Trade in Franchise History months after being given the reigns to the Club back in 2017. A Trade the Marlins can not move on from 4 years and countingπ΄ now. But just as the Front Office brass envisioned, Lewis Brinson starts in the Outfield and Hits right smack dab in the middle of the Team's Batting Order, every single day. What they probably didn't envision, is for Brinson to have a Career WAR of -3.3, Three Hundred and Thirty-Five Games into his Big League Career.
It's not like the guy he was Traded for, Christian Yelich, went on to become an M.V.Pπ€ or anything like that. Hey, the rest of the Trade-package for Yelich worked out just fine, right Isan Diaz π.
Things began to get better on the Trade front in M.I.A. I mean, it's not like the Marlins Traded All-Star Catcher J.T. Realmuto the following Year and now have an absolute massive hole at the Catching positionπ€π€π€.
Things can't be that bad. I mean it's not like this Front Office/Coaching staff are gonna play a Catcher named Chad Wallach for 4 years behind the plate simply because he's Bench Coach Tim Wallach's son.
Look at the bright side. This Marlins Front Office has made some Trades during July Deadlines as well. All the way back in 2018, they acquired an Infielder whose had a solid Triple-A Season in '21 named Bryson Brigman. Sure they never called him up and he was past over on the Roster for the likes of Joe Panik, Devin Marrero, and Luis Marte. But they acquired him, that's gotta count for something.
Heck, this past July the F.O had another blockbuster Trade up their sleeve. Can you believe they Acquired catcher Alex Jackson from the rival Braves?! That should solve the Catching situation. Sure it's taken Jackson some time to get adjusted to Big League pitching (58 K's in 101 AB's π±), but 1 of these days he'll make contact. C'mon, it's not like the guy (Adam Duvall) they gave away in that Deal has a chance to hit 40 Bombs and could help lead Atlanta to the Playoffs
.
It's no secret Marlins CEO/Owner Derek Jeter is paying himself $5 Million Bucks to run the Organization on a 5 year contract. A contract that is up after 2022 and comes after investing $25 Million Dollars originally for his stake of the Ballclub. So I ask this, if this is it, if 2022 is Derek Jeter's final year with the Marlins, why not go for it? Why not try and go out with a bang?
If the gentlemen you entrusted to make all moves Marlins have done anything right, it's acquire Starting Pitching. Starting Pitching, that with any kind of Offense, would allow you to compete in the N.L East. Only problem is these same gentlemen go out and sign guys like Corey Dickerson to 2 Year Deals. They bring in veterans like Curtis Granderson & Matt Joyce, who look like they need walking chairs to roll out in the Outfield. Or worse, they acquire absolutely any Minor Leaguer whose ever been dumped by the New York Yankees and place him on the Roster for the simple fact of having been in New York's System, like Peter O'Brien, or Stephen Tarpley, or Taylor Williams.
Why not go out and get a PROVEN President of Baseball Operations this Off-Season if your Derek Jeter (Heck, even your buddy Brian Cashman may be available)? Or why not move on from Gary Denbo, or Dan Greenlee, or Hadi Raad, or all the people you brought over just because they were ex Yankee Employees? Do you enjoy seeing Manager Don Mattingly (and his NYY Coaches) run you're Team like a circus act? Would you like to give Anthony Ass another 2 Year Deal? What happened to the player Derek Jeter, who above all else, was all about Winning? That's what I'm asking.
