New Relief

Some new names in the Marlins Bullpen have gotten some pretty big outs for the Fish here in the early part of the 2022 Season. Cole Sulser and Tanner Scott were acquired by the Marlins at the tail end of Spring Training from the Baltimore Orioles. While Louis Head's acquisition at the begining of the Off-Season flew a little under the radar in a Trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

We'll start with Sulser, whose locked down the 8th Inning for the Marlins, is 3 for 3 in Hold situations, and has a 1.42 ERA overall in the young Season.

Sulser doesn't have a blazing Fastball, but does have excellent Fastball command to go along with a filthy Changeup. For recent memory Fish fans, Sulser's pitch is a 'Trevor Richards like Change', which SHOULD soon allow the newest Marlins Right Hander to have a few 9th Inning opportunities (has 13 Career Saves and was expected to Close in Baltimore).

Sulser' Teammate in Baltimore, Tanner Scott too was expected to receive some 9th Inning duties with the O's. You can now see why, for with the Marlins Scott has featured an absolute wipeout Slider (Which he can throw for Strikes as well as out of the Zone for chase), to go along with a mid to high 90's Fastball from the Left side.

Scott has allowed two 2 Run Homers to Anthony Rendon in Anaheim and Austin Riley in Atlanta. But if matched up properly, can pick up more Saves like Scott did Saturday against the top of the Braves Order.

Last but not least, Louis Head was picked up in November in what at the time looked like a small Trade with the Rays that already however payed some big dividends on Sunday for the Marlins.

Head's story is an interesting one, as he thought he was done with Baseball after the 2020 Season. So much so he was selling Solar Panel Units in Arizona heading into 2021. A 2021 that saw Head finally receive a Big League opportunity and with it came a very impressive Season with the Rays. It's carried over with the Marlins, where Head had a terrific Spring, and of necessity was summoned into the 9th Inning in Atlanta on Sunday.

Head picked up his first Career Save against the Braves, and in the meantime may have helped the Marlins exorcise some ATL demons. Head's mid 90's Fastball and big sweeping Slider (which he has very good control of) can give any Righty Batter a tough time. And gives the Marlins a potential big time matchup Pitcher in a Bullpen that's bent a few times in the early going, but thanks to some outside help, has not broke.
