Flipping the Citrus Series 🍊
Believe it or not kids (and I may show my age on this one 😬) but the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were once upon a time the laughing stock in Major League Baseball. The Inaugural Season for the Rays of 1998 was the Defending World Championship Season for the Marlins (though I'm sure it felt as an Expansion Year as well following a full blown 🔥 Fire Sale post World Series). Tampa Bay however, suffered a minimum of 91 Losses in EACH of they're first 10 Years!
The first time both the Marlins & Rays hooked up was at the Trop on June 22nd of '98. An extra-Inning Game the Marlins won 3-2 in 12. In fact, Florida beat Tampa Bay 12 of the first 15 Meetings between each Club. It wasn't until 2002 when the Marlins finally lost a Season Series to the Devil Rays, but really even through 2007 it was still all Fish at 32-21 against Tampa Bay.
2008 rolls along and the Devil Rays are now only the Rays. Accompanying the name change was a lot of success on the field and the Marlins have not been excluded from it at the hands of Tampa. Since '08, the Rays are (brace yourself Marlins fans) 52-23 against the Fish, including they're 4-0 Shutout Win last night.
Boy wouldn't it be nice for the Marlins to turn the clock back on those Rays, with tonight being a good time to start, as the Fish play Game 2 of what we mentioned yesterday is a very important Road Trip.
Another thing we touched on a little yesterday and a word we used was accountability and the lack there has seemed to be inside the Marlins for almost 5 years now. At the time of Derek Jeter's departure this past February there was speculation of a potential ripple effect that could come down the Front Office chain. That of course being because the majority of the higher-ups from within the Organization were pretty much all Jeter employees that the former Yankee brought over from New York. Over these almost 3 months, at least by my knowledge, there has been ZERO movement with any Ex Jeter Employee in Miami. Including this guy ⬇️.
How's that old saying go 🤔, the definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Or it may just be time to sell Bruce.
