The Player Pool

Every MLB Team is required to have an “alternate site” in order to spread out each Club’s Player Pool, seeing as Covid spreads in large groups, and the Marlins know this too well ๐Ÿ™ˆ. The Fish selected Jupiter Florida as a place not only to bring in Players with past Big League experience, like you see in Spring Training with NRI’s who could be used in case of Injury (Or Covid ๐Ÿ™ˆ). They also brought most of their Top-Prospects to Jupiter, some who I’m sure nobody ever really thought would see action with the Marlins this year. Case in point, Trevor Rogers. Son Los Marlins wrote about Rogers in February, and how impressive he looked in a very small sample. But did anybody really expect to see what we saw last night?! “Pure Electricity” was coming out of Rogers' Left Arm. He has a feel for the Off-Speed, may have even gone to it a little too much, when you got a Fastball going like he did last night, #Whoa. We don’t know if Rogers' will get another chance to Start, but he just made a huge point that he’s plenty Big League Ready. The Fish have 3 Starting Pitchers coming back from the Covid-List, and need help out of the Bullpen. A ‘Pen’ where Rogers' Left Arm sure would look nice. Something to think about Marlins ๐Ÿค”.

Speaking of that Player Pool, the original plan for MLB was for each Club to invite 60 Players for eligibility to play in the 2020 Season. A 30 Man Roster & 30 Players at their alternate site (Seeing as there is no Minor League Season). Covid-19 had other plans however, and each Team whose battled the Virus has had to make adjustments to the Player Pool. Since July 1st, the deadline each Club had to present their 60 Players, the Marlins have added 4 Catchers in Santiago ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ Chavez, Nick Fortes, Julian ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ Leon, and Wilkin Castillo (who they’ve since cut). Preston Guilmet & Cody Poteet are the only Pitchers to have been added 'Post Covid-Outbreak' to have not received a Big League call-up. While Infielders Christian Lopes and Gosuke Katoh were resigned by the Marlins after originally not receiving invites. Travis Snider was the lone Outfielder added.

As impressive as Rogers' debut was, there have certainly been some struggles with other Top Marlins Prospects. Outfielder Jesus Sanchez has played as solid a Right Field as you can play, but is 1 for his first 20 in the Show. He has shown good plate discipline, but there are a lot of moving parts to his swing. Not to mention I can’t imagine Garrett Cooper & Harold Ramirez missing much more time in that Outfield. The Derek Jeter regime has not found that ‘Position-Player Prospect’ yet who has produced at the MLB level like they have in the Pitching department. The worst part is when they can’t admit they were wrong *Cough **Cough Lewis Brinson ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Enough Brinson and let’s stick to so much positive around this Club right now. The NL East is finding out firsthand how tough this Marlins Team is.
