The Replacements
Marlins version does not include Keanu Reeves or Gene Hackman 😉
One of my personal favorites, 2000's The Replacements, is a movie about a Professional Football Team searching high, low, anywhere, and everywhere for Talent in order to try and form a competitive Ball Club that had lost a majority of their players. Sound familiar 🤔?! Little did I know that my Marlins would be living this movie in 2020. Only for my Fish, instead of a comedy, it was turning into a horror film😨.
18 Marlins tested positive in a week's span for the virus known as Covid-19. Making this past week 1 of the most trying week's this Organization has ever had to experience. The Marlins have not announced who are the 18 individuals that have tested positive yet. We know of Jorge Alfaro, Jose Ureña, Garrett Cooper, and Harold Ramirez's postive test results because they were all placed on the Injured List last weekend without a motive given. Reports have since surfaced that the Marlins' Team Captain Miguel Rojas, as well as their lone All-Star Sandy Alcantara, were among the 18 Positive Tests. Here at Son Los Marlins, we discovered Sean Rodriguez & Aaron Northcraft were among those with the virus, as both started the Season as "Taxi-Squad" Members. Both Alex Vesia & Jordan Halloway were reported to have had positive tests as well, and today here at Son Los Marlins, we speculate Caleb Smith as being 1 of the 18. Ureña, Alcantara, and now potentially Smith testing positive, hit the Marlins with an absolute massive blow to their Starting Rotation.
Continuing with this theme, we have the names of 19 potential Ballplayers who will be brought in tomorrow to 'replace' the 18 human beings that will be out for an undisclosed amount of time (more on that momentarily), as well as Isan Diaz, who has decided to opt out of the 2020 Season. Pitchers Richard Bleier, Justin Shafer, Mike Morin, James Hoyt, Josh D. Smith, Brian Moran, and Infielder Logan Forsythe will all join the Club tomorrow in Baltimore. Guys like Smith & Moran were with this same Marlins Organization as recently as the end of the 2019 Season. While a guy like Brian Eibner, who the Fish signed and added to their player pool in Jupiter, was not even in Affiliated Baseball a couple days ago. All of the aforementioned, along with Switch Pitcher Pat Venditte (who was also reacquired by the Marlins), were brought in to the Organization in the last week for this particular reason. You ad the first 7 individuals with the 12 guys being brought in from within the Franchise. Infielder Eddy Alvarez. Outfielders Monte Harrison, Lewis Brinson, and Matt Joyce. Catchers Ryan Lavarnway & Brian Navarreto. Along with Pitchers Jorge Guzman, Humberto Mejia, Josh A. Smith, Nick Vincent, Daniel Castano, and Jordan Yamamoto, you have 19 new Marlins of the 33 that will be in Camden Yards starting tomorrow. With Alvarez, Harrison, Navarreto, Guzman, Mejia, and Castano all potentially making their Big League Debuts.
The other 7 Marlins who tested positive, have all the signs pointing to being Relievers (minus Closer Brandon Kintzler). Boy were the Fish thrown under the bus by Major League Baseball last week though. I guess they weren't expecting one of their jewel Franchises, the St. Louis Cardinals, to suffer their own Covid-outbreak this week. We're living in crazy times. There is no need to be pointing fingers looking for blame. Lets just hope our guys can make it back soon. In the meantime, lets go shock the 💩 out of Sports like those 'Washington Sentinels' 20 years ago 😉, and make a movie out this damn thing.
Very good investigative journalism through this pandemic.
