Who's on Short?

Image
It's the Holiday Season 🎅, which means the New Year is right around the corner 🎉, which also means baseball ⚾️ isn't too far behind. Spring Training will quickly creep up the calendar in February and when the Marlins open camp in 2023, a Position that has been locked down for the last 3 Seasons may have some moving parts to it. Shortstop has been Marlins Leader/unOfficial Captain Miguel Rojas' going into the last 3 years. Miggy-Ro was given the reigns at Short during the 2019 Campaign by Derek Jeter/Don Mattingly & company and has never looked back. Making the absolute most of his first opportunity into becoming a Big League Regular. Batting .277 to go along with a respectable .334 OBP in over 300 Games Played from '19-2021.  Twice, Rojas has Signed Team friendly 2 Year Contract Extensions in Miami, due in large part to the leadership he's brought to the Clubhouse (especially during the 2020 Playoff Season in the middle of the pandemic).  All while Miggy'

Postseason Takeaways

The 2022 Regular Season may have wrapped up Wednesday, but even for the Marlins who won't be Playing in this Postseason, there's a lot of work to do now and into the Winter. The Fish ended with a 14-13 Record over their last 27 Games, which not only helped them avoid a 100 Loss Season, but also avoided 95 Losses from which they would have suffered from for the 4th time in 5 years. As the Marlins look to 2023, where do things stand on the Position Player side, which is by far the weakest layer of the Club?  A name that had the most to do with that final month success was Bryan De La Cruz. To think the Fish Lost 6 Games even with their 14-13 Record, in which they were leading into the 7th Inning (with half of those Losses coming at the hands of the Cubs & Nationals 😬), at least shows the Marlin Bats awoke (especially from the horrendous Offensive stretch they had going for a month and a half).  De La Cruz's numbers following his Call back to the Big Leagues on Septembe

Things are a changing 🙂

Yesterday was built as an "end of an era" in Marlins Baseball. In terms of Wins and Losses, it certainly was a very tough era for the Fish.  Don Mattingly Managed his final Game in a Marlins Uniform, and quite possibly in the Big Leagues yesterday. Am I that naïve to think a new Manager is suddenly going to walk into the Miami Clubhouse, wave a magic wand, and miraculously turn the Marlins into Contenders? No. But to see the Fish not accept mediocrity anymore, and in some cases even embrace it , is at least a good sign for the fan base. A new voice, with a different thought process and ideas has been desperately needed by the Franchise for a very long time now . General Manager Kim Ng & Owner Bruce Sherman are in charge of finding that new voice for the Marlins. A voice that would not hurt being from the outside as opposed to in house if you ask me. Mattingly, a Jeffrey Loria hire all the way back in 2015, was Extended in the Managerial chair TWICE (after a 105 and during

Worst Marlins Team EVER?

Image
Sure the 1998 Florida Marlins Lost 108 Games, after a complete Team Fire 🔥 Sale of the 1997 World Championship Squad. A Fire Sale that included SIXTEEN Players on the '97 Marlins that were Traded in 12 separate Deals made by the time the '98 Trading Deadline had arrived. Said Fire 🔥 Sale coupled with all of the losses did HOWEVER open the door to the likes of Alex Gonzalez, Ryan Dempster, Luis Castillo, Preston Wilson, and Derek Lee, none established in the Big Leagues in 1998 (Year 1 of a Rebuild), and all future All-Stars. The 2013 Marlins also suffered a 100 Loss Season, which ALSO occurred during the 1st Year of a Rebuild (get the picture). Following Trades of All-Stars Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Johnson, Heath Bell, Omar Infante, John Buck, Gaby Sanchez, and future All-Star Edward Mujica. Opportunities for Big League Playing Time were certainly abound for future All-Stars Jose Fernandez, Henderson Alvarez, Marcell Ozuna, A.J Ramos, Brad Hand, Chris

Is Luke Williams the Jon Berti of 3 Years Ago?

Image
Few remember Jon Berti as a 29 Year Old Rookie in 2019 on a Rebuilding Marlins Squad that lost 105 Games in Year 2 of the Derek Jeter/Bruce Sherman "Build".  In a Season (2019) which saw quote on quote Top "Prospects" like Isan Diaz make their MLB Debut on the Infield & Lewis Brinson receive more chances to stick in the Miami Outfield, it was Berti's ability to play both (and at a way higher level Defensively and Offensively) that caught people's attention in South Florida.  3 Years later, ironically due to Injuries to the same Berti, along with fellow Infielders Brian Anderson & Jazz Chisholm, 25 Year Old/2nd Year Player Luke Williams has impressed in a limited role for the 2022 Marlins. Luke Williams' journey to Miami has been an interesting one to say the least. To call Williams, a 3rd Round Pick back in 2015 by the Philadelphia Phillies, a 'Prospect' by 2021 would be far fetched.  The Philly Farm Hand however was chosen to play for

Time to Sell?!

With the MLB Trading Deadline today at 6 P.M, one could easily assume that our Title above ⬆️ only refers to Transactions of Players as it pertains to our Marlins. After all, the Fish should be Sellers before 6 O'clock to try and build a better future for 2023 & beyond.   The Marlins should use today to try and improve one of the weakest Offenses in Franchise History, one that can simply not keep pace with their very Talented Pitching Staff, 5 years and counting. So excuse us when we say we've seen this 'Fish  Tale' before. The Club desperately needs Bats! The same way they desperately needed Offense in 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018.   Even the 2020 Playoff Marlins needed Offensive help, and they got it in the form of Starling Marte. Marte, who told the Club would have signed Extension in Miami last July for $50 Million Dollars over 4 Years, was denied that 4th year by the Marlins, only to be offered it by the Fish in November. Marte wounded up Signing a 4 Year Deal

Sweet Home Alabama

No Closer Tanner Scott. No Set-Up Men in Anthony Bass & Steven Okert. No problem?!  Each of Scott, Bass, and Okert had Pitched in the first 3 Games of a 4 Game Series in D.C to kick off the month of July. The Marlins were looking for a 4 Game Sweep over those Nationals on the very 4th of July 🇺🇸, but to say the Fish really needed Starter Braxton Garrett to go deep into the Game that day, may be an understatement. "Our Bullpen's a little taxed, it was in the back of my mind to try and get a few more Innings out for the Bullpen" said one Braxton Garrett after carrying a Shutout into the 8th Inning on July 4th during an eventual Extra Inning Win for the Marlins in Washington.  That gritty performance from the Alabama native has sparked what has been a terrific Month of July for Garrett. Coming into tonight's Game in Cincinnati, the Rookie Left-Hander is 1-0 with a very impressive 1.80 ERA since his D.C Outing . The Marlins have gone 3-1 in Garrett's last 4 St
