Bertman 🐦

Image
Jon Berti, who was in the Leadoff spot today for the first time this year, has gotten off to a very nice start both at the Plate and in the Field for the 2022 Marlins, in what is now year number 4 with the Club for the Super Utility Player. There were questionS weather Year number 4 for Berti would happen in Miami, for a couple of reasons actually. The Bert-man missed almost the entire Second Half of Last Season after being Hit on the Back of the Helmet/Head by Austin Adams of the San Diego Padres last July 22nd. The scary moment not only required multiple stiches for Berti, but gave him post Concussion like symptoms that carried all the way into December for the 31 Year Old Reserve at the time. Heading into his 32 Year Old Season, Berti was Arbitration eligible for the 1st time in 2022. Set to about double his Salary to $1.2 Million from around $600,000 (the Major League minimum in 2021). It came as a bit of a pleasant surprise to see the Marlins tender Berti a Contract for the 2022

Some new names in the Marlins Bullpen have gotten some pretty big outs for the Fish here in the early part of the 2022 Season. Cole Sulser and Tanner Scott were acquired by the Marlins at the tail end of Spring Training from the Baltimore Orioles. While Louis Head's acquisition at the begining of the Off-Season flew a little under the radar in a Trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.   We'll start with Sulser, whose locked down the 8th Inning for the Marlins, is 3 for 3 in Hold situations, and has a 1.42 ERA overall in the young Season.  Sulser doesn't have a blazing Fastball, but does have excellent Fastball command to go along with a filthy Changeup. For recent memory Fish fans, Sulser's pitch is a 'Trevor Richards like Change', which SHOULD soon allow the newest Marlins Right Hander to have a few 9th Inning opportunities (has 13 Career Saves and was expected to Close in Baltimore). Sulser' Teammate in Baltimore, Tanner Scott too was expected to receive some 9th I

We touched on it a little bit on Twitter yesterday. But man, Day Games on getaway days for the Marlins in HOTlanta have been almost that, a living πŸ”₯ breathing hell πŸ”₯.   'Almost', because 'finally' the Marlins finished 1 off, secured the Victory, and a Series win came with it against the Defending Chumps yesterday afternoon in G.A πŸ‘! SEVEN TIMES the Fish have been Walked-Off in Atlanta since 2018. ¡SEVEN! ..So excuse us Fish Fans if we have some PTSD whenever the Marlins play at Truist Park. 1 of the most gut wrenching losses in Marlins History was suffered at the hands of Dansby Swanson & the Braves back in May of 2018. The Marlins had a 5 RUN LEAD heading into the 9th, a lead Brad Ziegler and Tayron Guerrero could not hold, as Atlanta pushed across 6 Runs in the final Frame.     Curtis Granderson knotted this Sunday Rubber-Match for the Fish with a 9th Inning Homer back in April of 2019. But Adam Conley & the Marlins couldn't get an out in the bottom hal

Empezando despacio.

Tal vez tambiΓ©n unas Arepas podrΓan ayudar πŸ˜‰.     Cooper y lesiones desafortunadamente van mano a mano. Ya se nos ha salido de un par de

Cardinal Series Preview

Fresh off taking 3 out of 4 from the Division rival Phillies over the weekend which kicked off the Marlins 2022 Home Schedule. The Fish get set to host a Club which, well let's just say as much success as the Marlins have had against the Phil's over the last few years, the results have gone in the complete opposite direction when facing the Cardinals. The Marlins have not beaten St. Louis in 3 years. Of course there was a pandemic that did not allow both Teams to play one another in 2020. But as far as 2021 goes, the Cards and Fish matched up 6 times, and 6 Games went the Red-Birds way. The Marlins will look to extract some revenge from their neighbors at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, as 3 Legendry Cardinals make what could be their final trip to Marlins Park (that is if Playoffs are not on the '22 Menu πŸ˜‰). Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina have said 2022 will be their Final Season. While tonight's Starting Pitcher Adam Wainwright is only on a 1 Year Deal in St. Louis.

¡FIRE DON MATTINGLY!

5 Games in. It's too early to press the panic-button they'll tell you. They'll say it was only 1 Road Trip. There's 157 Games to go. But there, right there, is where the problem begins. 76 of those 157 Games remaining will be on the Road! Where Manager Don Mattingly's record in every full Season combined is a whopping, brace yourself Marlins fans, 151-256 since taking over the Marlins in 2016!!   A 95 Loss Marlins Team last year Played Over .500 at Home in 2021, but as the graphic above shows, were absolutely dismal on the Road. But what else can you expect with an in-game Manager the likes of Don Mattingly. You know, the same Mattingly who wants to try a Hit and Run with his Leadoff Batter on Base yesterday. Nothing wrong there, expect you're Leadoff Hitter is Power Hitting Slugger Jorge Soler, who doesn't have the quickest of feet. So why on God's green earth is he hitting number 1 in you're Order if you're trying to put plays on at the Top (l

Coulda/Woulda/Shoulda

Bit of a frustrating finale in San Francisco for the Marlins yesterday, as the rubber-match of the 3 Game Opening Series in the Bay went the Giants way.   There was some sparkling Defense from both sides on this Sunday afternoon. First from Jazz Chisholm Jr, who may have made the play of Opening Weekend in all of Major League Baseball at Second Base in the 1st Inning with a Superman like diving catch.   Giants Gold Glover Brendon Crawford stole a Run from the Marlins and an RBI from Garrett Cooper in the Second. Cooper would leave the contest after being struck in the forearm on Anthony DeSclafani's final pitch of the afternoon in the 5th Inning.  Jorge Soler robbed a Home Run from Darin Ruf in the 5th Inning as well. While Thairo Estrada would extract some revenge on Jazz with a beautiful stop of his own in the 6th. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is an EVERYDAY Big League Player, period.   The Marlins made a couple outs on the bases. Giants Right-Fielder Austin Slater threw behind Jesus Sanche

Opening Day takeaways

Don't make a lot out of Opening Day, it's only 1 Game! Repeat, don't make a lot out of Opening Day, it's only 1 Game!! Aww shucks, what the heck, let's take away quite a bit from Opening Day πŸ˜‰. True, the Giants beat the Marlins 6-5 in 10 Innings on Friday in San Francisco. True, there was a costly Defensive mistake and some untimely Base on Balls that ultimately cost the Ballgame. And true, corny cliches and silver linings don't take away the L. But (and here goes 1 of those corny cliches) the Marlins showed some fight didn't they. A fight that was missing in 2021 but was very present in 2020 (Postseason Fish).  Sure the Club was knocked down early, humbled a little by the Giant's Logan Webb, but still found a way to take a 9th Inning lead. Jazz Chisholm Jr. stepped right into the prime-time light and put the Marlins ahead with a dramatic 9th Inning 2-Run Blast off the Giants Closer.  Newcomer-Vet Jacob Stallings kept the Marlins in the Game, first with

40 Man (Pt. 3)

The Marlins, as does pretty much every Team in Major League Baseball this time of year, have quite a few decisions to make over the coming days when it pertains to the 40 Man Roster. The Marlins 40 Man is currently full, while NRI competition in Fish Camp is still abound. MLB announced there will be 28 Man Active Rosters throughout the 1st month of the Regular Season. Who among the Marlins NRI's may find themselves on that 28 Man Roster on Friday? And who on the 40 Man may find themselves replaced come April 8?? Over the last couple of weeks Monte Harrison and Isan Diaz were both Designated for Assignment in order to create 40 Man Roster Space. Yoan Lopez, who had taken Harrison's spot on that Roster, has too since been DFA'd and now finds himself with the Mets. Tommy Nance was claimed from Chicago by the Fish a few days ago as well, and so goes DFA limbo. That's because any time a player is removed (DFA'd) from a Team's 40 Man Roster, that player is exposed to
