Bertman 🐦

Jon Berti, who was in the Leadoff spot today for the first time this year, has gotten off to a very nice start both at the Plate and in the Field for the 2022 Marlins, in what is now year number 4 with the Club for the Super Utility Player.

There were questionS weather Year number 4 for Berti would happen in Miami, for a couple of reasons actually. The Bert-man missed almost the entire Second Half of Last Season after being Hit on the Back of the Helmet/Head by Austin Adams of the San Diego Padres last July 22nd. The scary moment not only required multiple stiches for Berti, but gave him post Concussion like symptoms that carried all the way into December for the 31 Year Old Reserve at the time.

Heading into his 32 Year Old Season, Berti was Arbitration eligible for the 1st time in 2022. Set to about double his Salary to $1.2 Million from around $600,000 (the Major League minimum in 2021). It came as a bit of a pleasant surprise to see the Marlins tender Berti a Contract for the 2022 Campaign after missing (because of the HBP incident) so much of 2021.

A Super Utility Player like Berti is often underappreciated in the Game. The Marlins have been fortunate enough to have had the likes of Alfredo Amezaga, Damion Easley, and Mike Mordecai on past Rosters. All 3 Ex Marlins played often over looked, but important and needed Roles on Winning Clubs in Florida.

The 1997 Florida Marlins, similar to the '22 Fish, were also not afraid to inve$t on a Veteran Reserve Player or 2 knowing, or better yet maybe appreciating a little more they're importance to a Club. A Championship Winning Club at that πŸ˜‰.
