The Mets' Michael Conforto after being hit by a Pitch in yesterday's Ballgame.
Hard to believe how yesterday's Marlins Game against the New York Mets ended. Even for Marlins Standards, the call that was "overturned" to end Thursday's Game, was Brutal. It's hard to explain such Horse Hockey, so here's the video instead.
After Homeplate Umpire Ron Kulpa CALLED Strike 3 on the Mets' Michael Conforto on a pitch OVER the Plate, he then ruled the Mets Outfielder was hit by the Pitch, REWARDING him 1st Base, and New York a Victory. Under the oldest of old Baseball rules, a Batter must make an attempt to avoid being struck by the Ball. In other words, under an Umpire's discretion, he may rule a Batter purposely was attempting to be hit by a pitch. Something looking similar to what happened in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series last year ⬇️.
Again, intentionally trying to be struck by the Ball is soley an Ump's Judgement. But this seems to be an issue regarding misinterpretation of the Rules. If the ball is in the Strikezone (Kulpa called it that way 🙈😅🙈), weather he's hit by the Pitch or not, it's a Strike. Remember, these are the Marlins we're talking about, otherwise MLB takes action here. You already have Kulpa admitting just that, "Culpa". Why isn't this a George Brett Pine-Tar Game against the Yankees? Way back in the day kids, Hall of Famer George Brett had a go ahead Home Run in the 9th taken away because he had too much "Pine-Tar" on his Bat 😅. That Game was reviewed by the Commissioner's Office, and had to be Replayed with the Homer being rewarded. But this isn't a Yankee Game, it's a Marlins one.
