  It's no secret the Marlins are going into 2025 with the lowest payroll in Major League Baseball. That's been well publicized, following a 2023-2024 Off-Season during which they signed exactly 1 Free-Agent (Tim Anderson, 1 yr/$5 Million Dollars), along with just this past Winter where they soley Inked Cal Quantrill to a 1 Year/$3.5 Million Dollar Contract. We've hinted on the Fish Front Office shedding almost every Player whom is making (either now or in the near future ) more than the MLB minimum. After signing a 5 Year $56 Million Dollar Extension following the 2021 Campaign, Sandy has 3 Seasons of Club control left, with a Team Option for 2027.   Can you believe that in less than a week's time Major League Baseball's Regular Season initiates with the same two Teams whom kicked off the Exhibition Season in Arizona. As is beginning to become customary if you will, the Los Angeles Dodgers begin their new Campaign in the land of the far east. Tokyo, Japan will be the setting for the Defending World Champions & the Chicago Cubs, a quick 2 Game Series which promises to thrill the Japanese fateful, seeing as Nippon stars will be out for both Squads. From Shota Imanaga & Seiya Suzuki, to Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and some guy named Shohei Ohtani. Camp has about 2 weeks left for the Marlins, whom open up on the 27th vs the Pittsburgh Pirates in South Florida again. Remember, it was the Pirates whom began the Fish's complete downward spiral to kickoff 2024, sweeping the Home Team in a 4 Game Series in Miami, and commencing their 100 Loss Season. The Marlins wrapped up Spring Training at Roger Dean in Jupiter and now head to Miami for 1 more Pre-Season Game tomorrow. All before officially kicking off the 2025 Season on Thursday against the Pirates. The official 26 man Roster has yet to be announced by the Club, though it's not hard to read between the lines a little bit. The Fish were unable to make it out of Spring without Injuries, as happens with many Teams. Left Hander Ryan Weathers, who had lost weight in the Off-Season, went down with a forearm strain, and looks like best case scenario will miss a very good chunk of the Season again. The heavier 2024 Weathers made only 16 Starts for the Marlins/yet was terrific when on the Mound, as he was again this Spring. Fellow talented Starter Edward Cabrera tallied all of 4.2 Innings in the Grapefruit League, due to ineffectiveness followed by blister issues. Cabrera as well will begin the Season on the I.L.
