Marlins Mexico
With Team Mexico being in the forefront today in the WBC, what better time to finish up our all-Mexico Marlins Squad. Current Marlins 40 Man Roster Player, Jared Serna is currently on the Mexican WBC Team. While former Marlin Robert Garcia pitched a big scoreless Inning against Team USA for the Green, White and Red on Monday.
The future of the American Squad also hangs in the balance today, as Team Mexico squares off vs Team Italy (whom are mostly all Americans). Italia defeated the U.S last night, so if Mexico wins tonight, all 3 Teams would finish 3-1 in Group play.
Runs allowed amongst each Nation's Games against one another would then determine which 2 Clubs advance to the WBC Quarter Finals. As it stands now, USA allowed 3 Runs to Mexico on Monday and 8 Runs to Italy yesterday. Mexico allowed 5 Runs Monday, while Italy had 6 Runs score by the U.S yesterday, so if Mexico wins by scoring 5 or more tonight, USA & Mexico are in. If Mexico wins by knotting 4 or less, Mexico & Italy are in. If Italy wins (no matter the score), Italia & the U.S advance.
Get all that?! Good.
We're obviously pulling for Mexico, though it's gonna be good to see Marlins standout Outfielder Jakob Marsee & former Marlins fan favorite Jon Berti playng for Team Italy.
Speaking of former & current Mexican Marlins Organizational Players, Dylan Jasso (acquired in the David Weathers Trade with Yankees) just got sent down to Minor League Camp. Jasso had been with the Big League Squad this Spring as an Non Roster Invitee. We'll add Jasso, born in Parral 🇲🇽 to our all-Mexico Marlins Roster, as well as Marlins Org. Catcher Victor Ortega, whom spent all of 2025 with the Jupiter Hammerheads.
Longtime Marlins Minor League Catcher, Santiago Chavez was brought aboard to Catch Mexico Verde's Serie del Caribe Championship Team last month in Jalisco. Mi tocayo helped bring Mexico it's first Caribbean Title in 10 years.
Rounding out the Team Mexico-Marlins Pitching staff, Rudy Seanez ('04) & Luis Ayala ('09) had long MLB Careers, which featured stops in South Florida to varying results. We could not find any conclusive evidence former Starter Jason Vargas ('05-'06) & former Reliver Marc Valdes were of Mexican Heritage, but we also couldn't find any evidence that they weren't, so we'll add both to the Mexican-Marlins Roster.
Longtime Starting Pitcher Ismael Valdez certainty is of Mexican heritage, as the Right Hander from Ciudad Victoria whom is enshrined in the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame, was acquired by the Fish at the '04 Trade Deadline to help boost their Playoff hopes. Valdez went 5-2 with a 3.98 ERA through September for the Marlins.
