Exciting Times

With Pitchers & Catchers having officially reported over 2 full weeks ago. Spring Training Games got underway over the weekend. The WBC is less than a week away from commencing. It's certainly an exciting time in the Baseball calendar.

The Marlins have played their last 4 Grapefruit League Contests in Palm Beach County, but will now head over to the west coast of the State to face the Defending A.L Champion Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida. They'll then stay on the Gulf of Mexico to face the Phillies for a second time this week, in Clearwater on Friday.

The Jupiter contest vs the Phils Tuesday featured the Spring Training debut for the Fish of Chris Paddack. Now that's "Spring debut" and not "Organizational debut", because remember Paddack was a former 8th Rd. Pick by the Fish in 2015, then turned into enough of a Prospect to be Dealt to the Padres for Fernando Rodney about a year later.

San Diego certainly won that Trade, though Paddack has tallied off quite a bit since a stellar Rookie Campaign in 2019. You can more than assume injuries have played a major factor there (2 Tommy John Surgeries after being Traded to SD and then Minnesota). The 6"5 Right Hander eclipsed 150 Big League Innings for the first time just last year (for the Twins & Tigers).

The peripherals could also be something the Marlins are leaning on with Paddack, as his BABIP against was .277 last Season (the lowest since '19). The big Texan still averaged 93.7 MPH on his Fastball in 2025. While not forgetting spin on that heater was what played Paddack's stuff up, to go along with the bread & butter Changeup. And we haven't mentioned command yet, as Paddack's Walk percentage has never registered 6% at the MLB level.

The Paddack signing by the Marlins brings depth to the Rotation, following the Off-Season Trades of Edward Caberera & Ryan Weathers. While also buying time for the Fish, who will not commence the Arbitration clocks of Top Pitching Prospects Thomas White & Robby Snelling to begin 2026.

A Rotation of Sandy Alcántara, Eury Pérez, White, Snelling, and one of Max Meyer, Braxton Garrett or even Paddack (whom signed only a 1 year Deal worth $4 Million Dollars) at some point in '26, could have Fish fans salivating to see it's potential. In the meantime, those 150+ IP's last year could come a long way in Miami to begin the new year. An exciting year it could very well turn out to be in South Florida.
