Jupiter Academy
Present/Here!! It was roll call time in Marlins Camp this week. I was able to make the trek down to Jupiter, FL this morning to visit what the Fish are calling the newly renovated "Jupiter Academy".
There was a ribbon cutting on Monday, as the first official Full Squad workouts for the 2026 Marlins took place. There were also tours to the upgraded facility on Wednesday the 11th, when Pitchers & Catchers commenced.
Spring Training has arrived. The Fish begin Exhibition play on Saturday vs the Team they met last in '25 in the New York Metropolitans (whom were Eliminated from Postseason contention on the final day of the Regular Season by the Marlins, AGAIN!!!).
Coming off a 17 Win improvement in 2025, expectations are definitely higher heading into '26 in South Florida. The payoff of a Rebuild which began during the 2024 Season, are beginning to bear fruit for the Fish.
A solid group of Position Players the likes of Kyle Stowers, Otto López, Agustín Ramírez, Jacob Marsee, Xavier Edwards and more, are now combined with the bread and butter of the Organization, which continues to be it's Pitching Staff.
The Bullpen has a new flamethrower up top, in F.A acquisition Pete Fairbanks. The former T.B Ray was acquired to join Calvin Faucher, Tyler Phillips and Anthony Bender in the back end of the Marlins Pen.
The Rotation will be headlined yet again by former Cy Young Pitcher, Sandy Alcántara (whose already been tabbed to toe the rubber for a 6th time on Opening Day). Alcántara is looking to build off a solid final month and a half of what was otherwise a very rough '25 Season. Tommy John Surgery wiped out Sandy for all of 2024, and the now Veteran Righty was working on a new pitch this past Thursday in Camp.
Alcántara mentioned a Sweeper he's adding to his arsenal in 2026, though it's worth mentioning Sandy threw his Curveball the most he'd ever had in 2025 (to really rough results). Remember also, Alcántara is scheduled to depart Jupiter at the beginning of March, as WBC Clubs form their own mini Camps (Under MLB supervision of course). Sandy pitched for the Dominican Republic in the '23 rendition of the World Baseball Classic, a year we mentioned culminated with T.J.
Fellow D.R native Eury Pérez, whom I saw today in Marlins Camp, will not pitch in the upcoming WBC, but will be in the Fish's O.D Rotation. Chris Paddack, freshly signed as a Free-Agent with the Ballclub less than a week ago. While Braxton Garrett (Elbow) & Max Meyer (Hip) are looking to rebound from surgeries that hindered both last Season.
There is room for plenty of optimism down in the Jupiter Academy this Spring, and not just because of all the renovations to the Complex. But because of the Players at the facility too.
