Mania
It's finally! arrived. With 'finally' truly needing an exclamation point beside it, seeing as it's been almost 2 whole months since the last WWE PPV event. In what feels like the longest build to a WrestleMania ever.
The ingredients for Mania Season were highlighted by John Cena's heel turn, after over 20 years as a face. You had Charlotte Flair make a triumphant return at the Royal Rumble, setting up her Title Match with Tiffany Stratton. CM Punk headlining Night 1.
What should have been the most captivating time of the year however, fell short of expectations. WWE spent what felt like a solid month in Europe, with many a star missing throughout this entire WrestleMania Season.
The leadup to the biggest show of the year, which captivates even the most casual of wrestling fan, seemed lackluster. The Rock & some Rapper helped facilitate Cena's shocking turn, then never returned to WWE programming, despite both billed for this weekend. All with the thought, did Cena even need anyone's help for such a monumental heel turn in the first place?
I digress. The 17 time World Champion Cena didn't even make the final Raw before Mania. As a matter of fact, his count for WWE appearances during this 2 month build towards the Main Event, a grand total of 4 for the literal Mr. "U Can't See Me".
All of this not showing up stuff, and we're not even talking about Roman Reigns. The Chief of never showing to any kind of wrestling events, even/especially as Champion. It certainly didn't deter the Company from giving Reigns yet another marquee spot on the Match Card tonight though. A Triple Threat, with nothing on the line.
The ladies who should've closed the show tonight were no doubt Flair & Stratton. But Raw on Netflix (don't get me started), didn't even feature any of the 5 women competing for a Women's Title 5 days before WrestleMania, and the list goes on and on.
Everything being said, we all know WWE is going to put on 1 heck of a spectacle this weekend. Mania will be magical as always, but that's what makes completely dropping the ball during the longest of roads to get here, the more frustrating.
