Spring's eternal

Image
The Marlins kicked off Spring Training last week with Pitchers & Catchers (more on the former in a second). The entire full Squad got things going "officially" Monday, though a substantial amount of Position Players were in Jupiter long before, chomping at the bit. Admittedly we began this post over the weekend prior to Owner Bruce Sherman & President Peter Bendix holding their recurrent specious media scrum to kick off the Spring. As has been the case with these sort of gatherings of Fish higher-ups of late, the terminology of being 'utterly oblivious' to the surroundings of the Ballclub, I think fits to a baseball tee.     It doesn't necessitate a  listen to all the 'analysts' on pods or read the many projections from so called 'insiders' to know the Marlins have or will be picked by almost everybody to finish dead last in their Division and probably the entire National League. That's something that's been brought upon themselves ...

'Marlins Media Day 2025' Sandy Alc...

Finally, some genuine good news to report regarding the Marlins. Over at the annual FanFest on Saturday, the Fish announced a Marlins Legends Hall of Fame. The inaugural first class will feature Mr. Marlin Jeff Conine, Luis 'Louey' Castillo, and Word Series Wining Managers Jim Leyland & Jack McKeon. Sincerely well done and long long overdue. We had a little fun over the weekend going in the opposite direction with regards to Marlins Legends. Sharing a list of some of the ' worst of the worst ' in Fish History. You know our Position Players, now let's delve into whom stunk it up on the mound. An antithesis Legends Hall of Fame if you will. Wei-Yin Chen The hands down Ace of the opposite Marlins Rotation is without question Wei-Yin Chen. You see, Signing a 5 Year Contract for $80 Million Dollars (the richest handed out by the Fish to a Pitcher EVER), only to win all of 13 Games to the tune of a of 5.10 ERA, will do that to ya! The Organization decided to pay Che...

Worst of the Worst

Image
A good amount of years ago we came up with our Son Los Marlins 'All-Time' Team . A few things have certainty changed since 2020, the Fish were in the Playoffs a couple times, Sandy Alcantara may or may not have (I mean, it's hard to take out any of those 5) sneaked into our 'All-Time' Rotation (we'll just call it a 6-man staff) following a Cy Young Award in 2022, Tanner Scott for the ' Pen ! But for the most part, I'd say that list would stay almost intact. Marlins X's John Rodriguez had a really  cool graphic last week, depicting his Marlins Diamond & Gold Teams, even including a Manager for both. Seeing as it's FanFest over at the Depot this weekend, where supposedly there will be ex "Alumni Announcements", thought we could have a little fun. Let's pull an episode out of Seinfeld titled "Biazzaro Jerry" and do an opposite list. Obviously talent won't have anything to do with it, as it's just for shits n gi...

Live!

Bit of a busy last couple weeks on the transactional side for the Marlins. I mean sure, they're getting very close to finishing a complete Off-Season without signing a single full Major League Free Agent for the 2nd consecutive year heading into Spring. But that not incorporated, there's been some news surrounding the Fish.  On the 15th, the Marlins were finally permitted to put pen to paper with their International class, whom the Team had allocated money for long before. Remember, there's a bit of a soft cap with how much each Team can spend, while you can only Trade for more International Bonus Pool money. The Fish's ceiling was around $7.5 Million Dollars, with 16 year old Venezuelan Prospect Andrew Salas receiving about half of that. Tuesday the 14th, the Marlins announced a planned project on the west plaza of loanDepot Park. It comes without question that the area around the Ballpark has always been in need of ambiance/entertainment options since opening it'...

Innings?!

Image
As the calendar turns over to 2025, baseball season's about a month away. Soon enough you'll hear about pitchers & catchers reporting to Spring Training. For the Marlins, news broke this week about one of those hurlers who was to play a big piece in their Starting Rotation. Bad news that is, as Braxton Garrett will miss the entire Season after a second major surgery (people don't wanna call it Tommy John anymore) to the Southpaw's left elbow. What may have been more alarming was that the Fish knew about Garrett's elbow struggles, yet decided to shed fellow Southpaw Jesus Luzardo last month in a Trade with Division rival Philadelphia anyway. You're now hearing reports that the Marlins could be in the market to acquire a Starting Pitcher. That's because what's left of the Marlins Rotation may need some help covering Innings in '25. Sandy Alcantara will be returning from his own Tommy John, and all indications point to will be gearing up this Spring...

Fight Week

The Rematch for the Heavyweight Title in the sport of Boxing is set for Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk defends his crown against the best big-man in Boxing of this generation, Tyson Fury. After such a closely contested Fight this past May, which saw Usyk narrow out a Split-Decision, there's high anticipation for Saturday in the desert. Less than 7 months ago we witnessed the first 'Undisputed' Heavyweight Championship Boxing Match since 1999, which saw Usyk nearly stop Fury in Rd. 9, after a flurry of combinations to the kisser had the 6'9 Englishman on queer street. The change in tide during the Bout however, came when it seemed Fury was in complete control during the middle Rounds, following massive uppercuts (including to the body) which seemed to really hurt the former Cruiserweight Champ. Fury also recovered brilliantly in similar fashion which has made him a legend in the Sport during many a Contest, howbeit the ...

Distrust, can you blame us

From the Luis Arraez Trade on May 03rd, having Tim Anderson become the only Free Agent signing during an entire Off-Season, igniting the Franchise into yet another Fire Sale. There's a reason, or 2, or 3 Marlins President Peter Bendix has earned much distrust within the Fish fanbase. Not even mentioning the man/circumstances whom brought the P.O.B.O to Miami was Owner Bruce Sherman and his handling of former Marlins G.M Kim Ng. So when Bendix strikes a move during the Winter Meetings, dealing Marlins Home Run Leader Jake Burger to Texas for 3 Prospects, it's no surprise fans show so much displeasure. Especially when you come to find out the move wasn't even money related for the low revenue Marlins, as Burger will not be Arbitration Eligible until 2026, meaning his '25 Salary will be closer to the Major League minimum. So why deal Burger if you're Bendix & the Fish? You've heard a lot about the move potentially clearing up space at positions like 1B/DH for...

WORLD Series

The 2024 World Series kicks-off Friday night in Los Angeles, California. When/where the Dodgers will host the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the Fall Classic. It's the first meeting for a World Championship between these two iconic Franchises since 1981, the year Fernando Valenzuela's Dodgers took down Reggie Jackson's Yankees. The 2024 World Series will actually mark the 12th time these 2 Clubs have met in October, dating back to the Brooklyn Dodgers days.  Star power has been a plenty when these Teams have hooked up in October. From Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra, to Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax and Fernando. With iconic Managers as well, the likes of Tommy Lasorda & Billy Martin.  Reggie's Yanks Won the Title over L.A in '77 & '78 and have mostly dominated when both Clubs have met in October pasts. The Yankees have taken 8 of the 11 World Series meetings with the Dodgers dating all the way back to 1941, though again, those mostly came wh...

FIN de Semana

As the Major League Baseball Regular Season comes to it's finish this weekend (well, kind of 🍑🍎), it's been crunch time for numerous Teams (some not even in the Playoff Race), all as October draws ever so closer. Both the Dodgers & Yankees clinched their Divisions last night at Home, over the Clubs just beneath them in the Standings no less in the Padres & Orioles.  While there's not much surprise in that L.A & the Yanks are headed to October once again, the same can't be said about Detroit and Kansas City. I don't think many people had the Tigers & Royals on their Postseason bingo cards when the Year started, yet both have magic numbers of just 1 to clinch American League Wild Cards. All while the Marlins of all Teams lent a very big hand to both Clubs this week. The Minnesota Twins, last year's A.L Central Division Winner, entered the mid week Series vs the Fish just a Game out of a Wild Card spot. Now, the Twinkies will need nothing short ...
