Sell Moritmer, Sell.

The Marlins got Swept and Lost their 81st Game of the Season last night at Home to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It's August 22nd, there are 35 Games remaining on the 2024 Schedule. Yikes! It got us thinking, how many Big losing Campaigns have the Fish endured now under Owner Bruce Sherman.

Sherman, thanks to the supereminent reputation in Baseball at the time of Derek Jeter, purchased the Marlins in the fall of 2017. In less than 7 Seasons, the Marlins have had all the likes of Michael Hill, Jeter/Gary Denbo, Kim Ng, and now Peter Bendix running their Baseball Department. Sherman/Jeter also had to employ a couple Presidents off the field, in Chip Bowers (who lasted barely a year) & Caroline O'Connor (the current Marlins Prez of Business Ops).

CEO/part Owner Jeter was eventually let go himself by Sherman over results on and off the field in 2022. The Marlins lost 93 Games in '22 following Jeter's departure, made the Playoffs in 2023, and now have reverted to an atrocious losing pace here in '24. As a matter of fact, since Sherman/Jeter purchased the Club, the Marlins lost 98 Games in 2018, 105 Games in 2019, made the Playoffs in the Covid Season of '20, then lost 95 Games in 2021.

So for those keeping score, the Fish have suffered Seasons of 98, 105, 95, 93, and whatever number they'll end up with this Season in the Loss column during the Sherman era. They've also celebrated making the Playoffs twice (2020 / '23) as mentioned, even Winning a Playoff Series in Chicago in '20, before getting Swept by Atlanta that Year & Losing both Games in Philadelphia last Season. All while we also referenced however, that 100 Losses was a very "legit possibility" this Year, something that's only happened 3 times in Marlins History. If the Fish hit that repugnant marker this Season, it'll be a deuce number for Sherman. No Marlins Owner has ever endured Two 100 Loss Seasons.

So, how do you grade Sherman's Ownership in South Florida? Yes, I said Florida and not just Miami, because somebody should tell the Marlins & O'Connor it wouldn't hurt to market a lot more north where the majority of their fan base resides. For me it's pretty clear, because it's in the numbers/results, and we ain't talking just about Attendance either. There's simply been too much LOSING associated with this guy.

Not just losing on the Field, but also losing money could be something Sherman will have to continue to get accustomed to, if he doesn't get a purchase price on a Sale of the Franchise he may or may not be looking for. But 1 thing is for certain, it's long past time to do just that. To Sell.
